We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jae Prysock. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jae below.
Jae, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Ive been singing since I was very young. Ive always wanted to be on stage and performing for as long as I can remember. It turned into a different story when I started to write my own experiences into songs and putting my every little emotion into the songs I was singing. I always felt connected with music because of course someone is always writing something that resonates with you in some way shape or form but this was different because it was my story. When is started sharing these songs and people were coming to me saying they felt so alone until the heard a certain song I wrote i cant even describe that feeling. I love being a safe space for people to come to because I dont want them to feel like they’re alone. I love the fact that music can connect people in so many different ways and since that first person that messaged me about “Break My Heart” I knew this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jae and Im a 20 year old waitress by day and musician by night. Ive been recording and putting out music for atleast 2 years now but Ive been playing guitar and writing for about 4 years. I started blowing up on tiktok after a rough breakup I had because I started going live every single night since my sleep schedule was so messed up. Ive gained a family and an amazing fanbase on that platform and I wouldnt be here today without them. I can genuinely say starting those nightly lives and connecting with those people saved me at a time i genuinely felt like my world was ending. Im so grateful for where I am today with music. Being able to perform live, having an amazing supportive fanbase and even better music friends that I wish i met sooner. I think what sets me apart and what people are usually drawn to from my platform is the fact that im very open with who i am and how my life really is. Im not an influencer just a waitress trying to play guitar and sing her little songs for the rest of her life.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Consistency. is. key. People have short attention spans so you have to keep things going or they get bored and move on. If you want to connect with them you have to grab them at the very first possible moment. Whether it be a video or a live stream you have to keep things interesting but also taking care of yourself must come first. I learned the hard way that if you keep pushing and pushing and having an unhealthy balance between social media and your real life it ends up taking a toll on you and your mindset.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew about more of the music scene in my area. It took me a while to get into live gigs and meeting up with local musicians because i didnt know where to start. Facebook is a really good place to find music groups in your area as well as just going to local colleges to the art fairs as well. Music people are everywhere you just have to know where to look:)
