We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaden Scott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jaden, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My business called Charlotte Underground (CLT Underground) has been the most meaningful project that I’ve worked on so far in my musical path. This business is a production company/organization that takes pride in bringing the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) community in Charlotte, North Carolina together. This has only been going on for a little over a year and we have already grown so much since we started. We are around 30 members strong, with talent ranging from DJs to producers to visual artists and we have been throwing events in places like Charlotte NC, Greenville SC, Miami Florida, and Virginia. Our mission and our goal is to eventually grow nationwide and have our own festival in the coming years!
Jaden, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jaden and my stage name is Oxide, and i was born in Bowie, Maryland, I have been producing and DJing for about 8 years now and music has always been a major part of my life. Ever since I was a kid I was involved with music, playing for school bands and marching bands throughout my middle and high school years. Being in band has introduced me to many genres of music, with Electronic music taking up a majority of my interest and has influenced me to pursue growing in the Electronic scene today. I am also the owner of CLT Underground, a production company/organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina that throws events all around the city. In regards to my own artistry, I produce anywhere from Techno, to drum and bass and Dubstep. Music has always been my passion and my goal is to put smiles on people’s faces with my music.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew about marketing much more before starting my journey, I realized that marketing yourself plays such a huge role in being any kind of artist so that people can be able to discover you.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I think that so far my most successful way of growing on social media has been through video format. Pictures are good also, but can only go so far. With how social media works today, short form video content is definitely the way to go. Whenever I post a reel on Instagram with something like music I’m currently working on, that always receives the most engagement on both my CLT Underground page as well as my own artist page. This also should be either paired with captivating art that gets the people’s attention, or you showcasing yourself so that people know who you are and what you look like and your personality.
