Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jaden Rossini. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jaden, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
The first dollar was through my first popup event held in a cafe that I worked for in Eastern Market. I really did not expect much from the event because it was planned and advertised in less than two weeks. A lot more people showed up than I expected, and they were all very supportive. It was so great to see people appreciate and enjoy my work. The first piece I sold was a custom screen printed jacket that my close friend purchased from me at the beginning of the popup. He wore it out the store, and it meant the world to me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am currently a junior studying fashion merchandising at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. I am originally from a city called Saginaw, Michigan about an hour and a half north of Detroit. It was a smaller city with little to no fashion influence or passion throughout the city. In High School, I fell in love with fashion and the self expression that came from it. I was often ridiculed for my different sense of style than others, but I never let it discourage me from trying new things. Ever since then I knew that I wanted to create my own self expression with my own designs that I would love to wear on a daily basis. It took me a long time to gather up the courage to actually start designing and planning, but this summer I finally cracked down and started my journey in designing. I design all of my clothes with myself in mind and what I would want to wear. Because of this, each piece is created from referencing lots of personal inspiration as well as from talented brands and designers that I love. I am most proud of my brands identity which focuses on youth culture as a whole.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I have only been designing for a short time, but I have never felt more passion and excitement for anything else I have ever done. Seeing my first shirt come into fruition from just an idea and a couple not so great sketches made me feel so accomplished and satisfied. Being able to share this excitement with other people who enjoy my designs is just the cherry on top of it all too.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Even though I still have a pretty small following compared to other creators, it did take a lot of dedication and perseverance to get where I am at today. The biggest part of building an audience is to be consistent and true to yourself. I can’t stress how important consistency is! It is also best when you let your personality shine and be confident in yourself. There will always be people who want to see you fail, and that is most prevalent online. You have to simply do your best to ignore the hate and focus on the positives.
