We were lucky to catch up with Jaden Hodges recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jaden, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
My learning journey started at a very young age playing piano and learning music, years later I started a band with friends from high school and got some good experience in the field of music! Fast forward to 2019, I was at a club with friends and the only thing that had my attention was the DJ! I was star struck with how smooth the DJ transitioned from one song to another and I said to myself “I can do that 100% I can do that!” So the next day I found myself looking at DJ mixers and ended up buying a DDJ-SB3! From there it was just a matter of learning the software and buttons, of growing my music library and getting to interact and meet with all the local DJs and clubs to really get a good sense of how much I could grow!
Jaden, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I would not be where I am today without massive influences like AC/DC and Deadmau5, I still remember being 8 years old and hearing Back in Black on the radio for the first time, I knew right then that I wanted to play guitar! Not to much later I heard Deadmau5 song “I Remember” and fell in love with EDM! Now I focus on creating my own original sound and I try to include my personal instruments in my music as much as I can!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of what I do is inspiring others so take the leap and try doing something they have never done before. If I can inspire others to be creative in any form or fashion, then I have done my part to help change the world!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn was thinking I was the “best” at what I was doing. When I was younger I thought I was the best guitarist in my class when in reality I wasn’t even third best, so ill caution others to take criticism without getting a chip on your shoulder because sometimes people are just telling you the hard truth!
