We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jaden Flores. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jaden below.
Jaden, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Doing these large murals have been such a life changing experience. It not only gave me and my artwork a voice but it gave one to the community itself, the amount of positivity the local community has for the work I do is an incredible honor, and when go out and paint, I get the opportunity to take a neglected or rejected space and turn it into a landmark for the community with years to come. Art brings people together and adding such magnificent walls to our neighborhoods really helps bring back the beauty that was lost when infrastructure took over nature. I love to add history and culture into my murals so that way it has something for at least some of the community to connect too
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 23 year old full-time freelancing artist. I work over many mediums but I feel I’m most know for my mural work. I have done many large scale interior and exterior murals, mural restoration, street art festivals, mural festivals, I primarily work with aerosols, brushes and rollers to create my often vibrant and elaborate works. I also have been an commission based artist for a couple years for smaller works like canvas’s, hand painted skateboard, guitars, furniture, just about anything that is able to be painted I love to add my flare to it. I recently have switched over to learning to becoming a tattoo artist as a main focus and doing murals as a side project, I’m constantly excited for the opportunity to challenge and test my artist ability’s and see how many places I can put my art. The obstacles that comes with creating art over a massive surface with its own imperfections and personal character is a lot like working art around a human body and it keeps the work exciting and interesting.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There definitely has been its struggles that came with choosing art as my life’s goal. Many mental, physical, and financial hardships that could have been avoided with a more practical career path. Working harder than I would at a normal job on nothing but belief and hope for a better future and a happy life. I didn’t make a dollar the first 3 years of my mural career, actually costed me money to go out and paint the quality of murals I wanted to create, and after I had put in my work and made a good reputation for myself I was able to start making real money off my creativity, I get to live my dream everyday.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Work with your small business community, help others who can help you, most small business owners are good people who have there own dream they are chasing so I’ve always found a lot of understanding and support from them. Doesn’t need to cost either party money sometimes it works on trade to support what the other does anywhere from giving them your art to have on display, sharing there stuff on your page, helping them with designs for there products, and for me painting art on the walls. Now every business I have my art in is positive word of mouth advertising from there costumers and grows both our followings by common interests bringing people together
