We were lucky to catch up with Jadeia Grimes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jadeia , thanks for joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
It was back in 2017 when life really started to test me. I really couldn’t figure out a way to “make” something of myself, the pressure to “be great” can be very overwhelming these days. I’ve always been into makeup and girly things, I used to do makeup for weddings and it was fun but it wasn’t my passion, but I knew anything beauty would suit me well! It was around 3am one night, I couldn’t sleep, I was very sad and depressed but something told me to look into esthetic school so that’s what I did! It led me to have a great job and the opportunity to pursue my modeling career! It really was a stepping stone in my life! It was the first time I felt like I was doing something right and meaningful with my life! Taking the initiative was hard but once again proved myself!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Honestly I’m still very shy when it comes to talking about myself and I never want to come off as braggy! The main thing I guess that I would love for people to know about me is that I’m just me dude. I’m just a women who’s trying to be great. I’m not better than the next! I first got into modeling by messaging a photographer I already had a relationship with! The shoot was really out the box for me but I loved it because nobody has seen me in that light before, it was nice to shock people lol. I think the important thing to remember is not everything will be given to you, it takes work, dedication and honestly thick skin! Sometimes I still cry because I feel like I’m not good enough! I see all these beautiful women who should be noticed across all platforms and on a bad mental day that can do a lot to you! YOU have to believe in yourself and never give up! I would not have gotten this far if I would have given up! That’s my discipline! I know I have what it takes!! I can say I’m really proud of my portfolio, I think it’s pretty full with all types of different styles that show what I’m capable of! It took lots of nerves to make it happen but it’s here and I’m forever proud of that!

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes I would! Any other jobs I’ve had never would’ve worked long term! I know regardless this profession is what fits me best!!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Communication and determination! If you aren’t signed to an agency a lot of the work is on you, a lot of the connections you’ll make is because you took the step to put yourself out there!! Close mouths don’t get fed!!
