Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jade Yuan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jade, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve been a part of took place last year. I worked with a well-known skincare brand whose core message emphasizes the importance of having a skillset. As part of this mission, they support a cosmetology program at a women’s correctional facility, providing advanced training, products, and equipment. This program helps women develop valuable skills while incarcerated, giving them a foundation for success once they re-enter society.
My team was tasked with creating a short documentary-style video. We visited the facility to interview the women, hearing firsthand how the program had changed their lives. Some graduates had completely turned their lives around, even going on to own and run successful businesses. We also met with one graduate to hear her personal story of success and the positive impact it had on her family. It was a beautiful and inspiring project that really stuck with me, showing me the importance of community and human connection. It deepened my desire to continue telling more stories like that.
Jade, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a native SoCal girl, born and raised throughout OC and LA, and I’ve been passionate about storytelling for as long as I can remember. I was always the kid with a camcorder, creating little videos and skits. As I grew older, I decided to turn that passion into a career, attending USC’s School of Cinematic Arts where I earned my BA in Film & TV Production. It was an intense, whirlwind experience.
After graduating, I struggled to keep up with student loans while trying to break into the industry. I needed something semi-stable to stay afloat, which led me to marketing and video production. Back then, most marketing teams didn’t have dedicated in-house video specialists and would often outsource. With my production background and love for storytelling, I found a way to make myself indispensable as part of the creative team. I started out small as an in-house videographer and editor, creating social media content. That gradually expanded to overseeing larger projects like brand campaigns and lookbooks.
Now, I oversee the creative production for a prestige skincare brand’s US Markets as well as freelance produce. I help develop video concepts, direct productions, and handle everything from hiring talent to managing smaller shoots. What sets me apart is my adaptability—I’m big on problem-solving and always plan for the unexpected. Plus, I pride myself on matching the right people with the right projects, whether it’s a photographer, makeup artist, or 3D designer. I’m confident in my ability to bring together a team that delivers the highest quality content
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most fulfilling part of being a creative is the opportunity to collaborate with other talented individuals. There’s an incredible diversity of skills and perspectives out there, and each person brings something special to every project. The real magic happens when we share ideas, learn from one another, and allow everyone to shine in their unique way. Watching a vision come to life through this collective effort is truly inspiring. Beyond the professional rewards, working with such a variety of authentic and passionate people is simply a joy—it enriches both my career and my life.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My primary mission in your creative journey is to tell stories. Storytelling is my deepest passion, and over the course of my career, I’ve discovered that there are countless ways to tell a story and make an impact. I’m particularly drawn to telling human stories. The more we explore and share the diverse facets of the human experience, the more we can connect as a society.
