We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jade Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jade below.
Alright, Jade thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The way I was able to come up with the name for my business was pretty simple. When I think of braids, it can mean a variety of things. It can symbolize a new phase in your life or be something that simply inspired a certain look.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello! My name is Jade. I’m a licensed natural hair braider out of Houston, Texas. Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I started my hair journey at “Franklin Beauty School” and finished with my braiding license at “Texas Barber College”. Braiding simply started out as a hobby. I went from doing a few friends, to braiding people that were referred to me, and realized maybe this should be much more than a hobby. So, what started out as a hobby, turned into a part time thing while also working a regular 9 to 5 and is now a full time thing. Talk about staying the course, right? Services provided are a wide rang of natural hair braiding and twist styles with or without extensions. Most services that I offer are included with hair extensions and a shampoo service. That’s something that is rare when looking for a stylist or a hair braider today. Its all about convenience for my clients. Looking back at how far I’ve come is definitely something to be proud of. A welcoming atmosphere, great conversation, great service, and a nice experience is what represents “Braid Expressions By jade”.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I look at my Braid Expressions Fam as walking advertisements. I’d have to say referrals. Client referrals was something that brought in most of my new clientele before in my beginning stage. Now, Google search is something that is really working for me today. I’m currently located in an area where the services that I offer are not common or available like the surrounding areas, so I’m able to have a diverse variety of clients .
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Having a genuine spirit. Being true to what you do, and having a love or passion for it. It shows in your personality as well as your craft and people look for that. Whether it’s someone bragging about you or someone stumbling across your social media page.
