We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jade McNeil Interior Designer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jade McNeil below.
Jade McNeil, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I came to a pivotal point in my career where I knew I had outgrown my job at the time, but I was feeling afraid and confused as to what to do about it. I had worked for other interior design firms for nearly 7 years and had always thought about going out on my own. I felt I had put in my time working for others and giving my creativity away, and I wanted to get recognized for my work as a great designer. After A LOT (by a lot I mean a year) of careful consideration and planning, I took the leap of faith and started my own interior design firm. People ask me all the time if I was scared, and the answer is always “OF COURSE!”, but honestly I was more afraid of staying where I was than of following my dream into unknown territory. I was confident as a designer as I had been designing and running my own projects for years, but I knew little about actually running a business. I knew the first step in becoming successful was to hire a business coach who helped me beyond measure in launching my business.
Jade McNeil, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Jade McNeil, owner and principal designer of Jade McNeil Interiors. Jade McNeil Interiors is a luxury interior design firm based in NYC, with offices in LA and DC. Jade McNeil Interiors designs soulful modern interiors by connecting nature with modern day life to create timeless, inspiring spaces. I focus on creating these environments by pulling inspiration from nature, maximizing natural light, using appropriate space planning to increase flow and harmony, layering textures in a neutral based color palette, incorporating color theory techniques, solving creative storage solutions to hide clutter, using natural materials and plants to add warmth and life, and so much more.
Entering the design world in 2014, I began designing in my hometown of Los Angeles before settling in NYC, and have since worked on residential and commercial projects in some of the largest cities for interior design, including NY, LA, Miami, DC, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Before earning a degree in Interior Architecture from UCLA, I received a BA in Sociology. This influences my design process by incorporating societal and cultural themes into my design approach for my projects.
My design approach lends itself to a modern style while incorporating influences from nature that speak to the soul of the home, and most importantly the soul of my clients, for a modern yet timeless look and feel. Creating nature inspired spaces is something I am very passionate about. My designs focus on more than just appearance and function; they tie into how a space feels and how it makes you feel. My goal is to create spaces that are not only beautiful for my clients, but that are also customized to their everyday lifestyle beyond their wildest dreams and needs. There is no corner that shouldn’t bridge the gap between beauty and function. I wholeheartedly believe natural materials influence us in the spaces we inhabit, leading to feeling inspired to live a full and beautiful life.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
As a designer, I am my brand. I pride myself on giving my clients an excellent experience and I get a lot of client referrals and repeat clients because of it. No matter how big or small the project is, I give them all the same time and attention which goes far beyond just the relationship for that one project. By giving my clients a beautiful space and experience, they are more likely to refer me to my next client.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I recently launched a blog so past, present, and future clients can stay in the know with everything that’s going on with my business – cool new projects, press features, designs I’m into, and any important announcements for new offerings. I feel this is the best way to keep in contact with clients and to update those following my journey.
