We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jade Lopez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jade below.
Alright, Jade thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My very first client found me, we were former work colleagues, I had gotten fired, and she went on to open a Peruvian restaurant. She called me and asked if I would like to meet for lunch, I thought it was a bit out of the blue when she called because we hadn’t spoken in so long. But I accepted, at lunch she brought up my social media and asked if I ever thought of running other peoples social media. If I am being honest, I truly wanted to be an Influencer, I went viral a lot, even had Khloe Kardashian’s brand Good American Jeans see my content and asked me to create UGC for them, but my personal social never took off the way I had wanted it to. I felt like my personal social media was a bust and I was taken aback by her statement.
I quickly responded, “I don’t know how to do that..” and she cut me off and said “Yes you do, name your price.” I threw out a random number and to my surprise she hired me for a long term contract, from there I dove head first into learning everything I could about content creation and social media management. Her other business owner friends started noticing her content that I was creating was going viral often and had asked how she did it, she started passing my name along, and I started getting more clients. That’s when I had an epiphany, I might have failed as an “influencer” in front of the my camera, but the failure helped me realize that my super power was behind the camera in story telling.
Being a “child of the internet” I was the first out of my friends to be obsessed with social media when social media was in its infancy. I remember my high school friends telling me it was stupid and pointless, but to me, being homeschooled for a good portion of my childhood I feel had affected me and often left me feeling disconnected from the outside world, the internet was my way of connecting with a world outside of my home. I was always told it was a waste of my time, but I remember when I started making real money from my “wasted time” it just felt so good. It felt like I had found a way to shut down all the people who would make backhanded comments about my personal social media content. In a way, it was vindication for me, I could be “influential” in a different way, I could use my expertise and knack for story telling to influence audiences to support small business owners around me. Through my work, my clients have been spotlighted several times in articles by bonafide food critics, food blogs and even the Philadelphia Inquirer and barstool did a story on one of my clients from seeing my content.
It felt good, and it continues to feel even better now that it has lead to a full time job as Digital Content Creator at a tech company, I have more clients than I have ever had before and just penned my biggest contract this week, the cherry on top is that my content viewed millions of times!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve understood resilience intimately through the twists and turns of my life journey. Let me share a story that genuinely tested my resilience and shaped who I am today.
A few years back, I got a DM from a stranger with a revelation that shook the very foundation of my existence. Through Facebook, of all places, I discovered that I was someone’s long-lost daughter. It was surreal; at 22, I was having a full-on identity crisis and realized that I was lied to and hidden my whole life, like a plot line ripped from one of those telenovela dramas.
I felt excitement and trepidation as I began connecting with my biological father and newfound family. The prospect of belonging somewhere new was exciting; seeing a box full of letters, post-marked from 1988 to around 1995, all returned to sender filled me with anger; this whole family was looking for me, and someone kept sending them away.
However, just as our relationship began taking shape, tragedy struck. My biological father, grappling with his own demons, made the heartbreaking decision to end his own life. The pain, confusion, and guilt I felt from not being able to pick up on the fact that he was making amends with me left me with this incredible sadness for someone I was just getting to know.
As if fate hadn’t dealt me enough, nine months later, I faced the most significant devastation of my life. I lost my youngest child, a loss that left a void in my heart that words could never fill. It was a period of profound grief and despair, where each day merged into night, and I felt like I just wanted to end it all and be with her because I thought she was out there, somewhere lost in the universe, on the other side, missing me too.
Amidst the darkness, I sought solace in the arms of those I held dear, including my partner of 8 years. However, the loss of our child strained our relationship as we grieved in different ways. Eventually, the weight of our individual grief became too heavy to bear together, and I made the tough decision to walk away.
Amid these trials, I discovered the depth of my own resilience. I found the strength to endure, to pick up the shattered pieces of my life, and to forge ahead, even when the path was filled with pain, betrayal, grief, and suicidal ideations.
It was a journey marked by tears, heartache, and moments of quiet introspection. But through it all, I refused to be defined by the pain that threatened to consume me. Instead, I embraced the resilience that lay dormant within me, drawing upon it as a source of unwavering strength.
Today, I stand before you, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. My journey has been fraught with challenges, profound growth, and self-discovery. And while the scars of the past may linger, they remind me of the battles I’ve fought and the resilience that has carried me through.
I never doubt my ability to find the inner strength to fight back when I’ve been beaten down, and my back is against the ropes. I’ve stared in the face of darkness way too much in my short time on this earth,
Today, I stand tall, unapologetically fierce, and unyielding in the face of adversity. I’ve danced with darkness, tasted the bitterness of loss, and embraced the depths of my own resilience. Through the storms, I’ve emerged as a woman forged by fire, tempered by trials.
I refuse to be defined by the pain of my past; instead, I harness it as fuel for my fire, propelling me forward on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. I walk with purpose, knowing that within me lies the power to conquer any challenge that comes my way.
So, to anyone who dares to underestimate my strength or resilience, I say this: I am a force and a relentless dreamer. I choose resilience. Always and forever.
Any advice for managing a team?
This bit of advice I picked up during my time in the military, I had a superior officer who used to call all the junior soldiers chief.
He was different than other superiors I usually encountered in the civilian workforce and the military because he always let his soldiers have the glory, he always gave credit where credit was due, it didn’t matter how low you were in rank, if you had a good idea he would give you credit for it and make sure everyone knew it. One day I mentioned it to him and he looked at me and said “When you shine, I shine Cheif, thats just how it works, if you move up that ain’t going to move me out, its going to move me up.”
That lesson stuck with me, when your team shines so do you, and if you’re good your job, your team being brilliant shouldn’t intimidate you as a leader, it should motivate you.
