We recently connected with Jade Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jade thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I have used a lot of tools to learn photography, but the best tool is honestly YouTube and learning from other photographers. I think I could’ve done a few mentorships with other creatives and that would’ve really helped jumpstart my confidence. The number one skill I think is essential in photography is understanding Lightroom or whatever editing service you use. The only obstacle that stood in my way was my own self doubt, trying to take the easy way out instead of just learning my craft.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! Im Jade from Jade Jones Photo. I’m a mother to a sweet little boy and three fur babies, 23 years old, and living with my fiancé in Indiana. I got into photography because of my grandma. She was always taking photos when I was a little girl, me being the model, until I picked up my own camera and fell in love. My main goal with this is to make people feel beautiful, and capture all of the in between moments that people miss if they blink. I am so proud of myself for taking one of my creative hobbies and turning it into my career. I always knew I wanted to be my own boss and I finally made it happen.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal is travel. I’m hoping that this career will take me all over the world to meet new faces. I’ve always wanted to spend my time traveling and I think photography will really help me do that.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Content days and mentorships! I wish I would’ve taken a mentorship with one of my favorite photographers right off the bat in order to ask all of the questions that I spent forever trying to research. I think content days are also such a good way to get out there and meet other creatives, while learning and having fun.
