We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jade Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jade thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
One of the biggest trends I see in the beauty industry is recreating your brand. Reinvention is the key to attracting clientele. Whether through social media or In salon, giving your clients something to be excited about is it. Learning or showing a new technique, changing your brand colors or logo, it’s all apart of the trend.
Jade, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jade Johnson! I am a 16 year licensed Master Cosmetologist and salon business owner. I fell In love with hair organically at my moms salon at a young age. I love hair I breathe it. It goes hand in hand with my mental creativity and passion. I specialize in hair extensions for all hair types and ethnicities. I also specialize in vibrant hair color services.. Creating a specific look for each one of my clients that they love and feel confident wearing is the top goal. I started from the bottom and worked my way up. I remember doing house call hair appointments. I remember assisting for years for free in exchange for skill and knowledge, I remember building my clientele through social media. Now every business day is a blessing. Walking into my salon is a constant reminder of that.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I funded my business through bootstrapping! Point blank ! I didn’t learn about capital and business loans until later on. I just worked my ass off. I wish I could share more but that’s what it was. That’s the joy of being an artist. It’s passion and it can fuel so much. When I say fuel, finance is include in that.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth travels faster than the speed of lightening when you’ve provided a good service. Of course we can’t forget about social media. I am a producer of hair art so Instagram worked for me. I post my work, name the service, if this is for you check me out! If not keep scrolling lol. I love that for me. I never really did Facebook or twitter but does my business have those platforms? Yes ! It’s what makes the world go around now a days.
