Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jade B. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jade, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
If I were to start over I would have practiced one thing more, consistency. I would be so much further if I would have stayed consistent and focused more. Working a 9-5 really got in the way of my business and instead of working on my business daily, I didn’t. I would sporadically do things here and there and I let any little thing get in the way of my goals.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started SBJ Media in 2020 due to being fired from my marketing job right before COVID hit. It sparked an interest in me when a friend reached out to me to do her business graphics because she knew I played around with graphics when we were in college. I noticied a disconnect with business owners when it comes to branding and graphics mainly in my community, the black community. After that I sought out other black business owners who were in need and it went form there.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am currently pivoting my business. With me being pregnant majority of 2022, it was the perfect time to change things up within my business. Before this year I would take almost anyone that inquired about a service, however, that’s also been one of the biggest downfalls in my business. I should have been catering to my target audience, not everyone.
Since the birth of my baby, I have been taking orders but I am currently working on my rebrand. My main goal is to provide high-quality graphics and websites to black business owners who are ready to elevate their brands.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My ability to deliver and exceed my client’s expectations is what built my reputation. The majority of my clients have been referrals or by word of mouth from previous clients. I have had a few clients who did not like the outcome of their service, however, the majority of my clientele loved their results enough to refer me to their friends and family.
