We recently connected with Jada Zellner and have shared our conversation below.
Jada, appreciate you joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
One of the things that my parents did right is instill independence in me. This has impacted me in several ways throughout my life. I have never been easily persuaded to follow the crowd. I make my own decisions in what I want to learn, to explore, and what to be. Independence is what made me want to start my business. Growing up in a big family I was always a part of a unit. We mostly did everything together. But my parents always allowed us to explore what we wanted to be as individuals. They inspired me to showcase our individualism no matter what people thought of us. And I take that with me in every aspect of my life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jada Zellner and I am the owner of the brand Ramen and Crystals. I started participating in food competitions in high school and studied Culinary Management in college. From there I have worked in every area of the kitchen and I have realized I never want to work in this industry under anyone other than me. I decided that I wanted to create something of my own, something that would showcase everything that I have learned in the industry. At first Ramen and Crystals started off as an idea for creative individuals to bring their ideas together and form a community. I want to add on to that and include all of my business ventures under that one umbrella. Currently I am working two concepts, a coffee shop for the black community and lounge with cultural fusion. I am close to bringing to these creations to life for you all to enjoy.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson that I had to learn is to ask for help. It contradicts what I said earlier about independence. But honestly, it has gotten in my way. Me wanting to prove myself and make it on my own has caused me to lose so many opportunities and miss so many connections. That was the biggest pill that I had to swallow and I learned that getting help is okay.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
The best way I stay in touch with my clients is through social media. I like to be relatable even when I don’t have a lot of business going on at the moment. I have a blog that I write, showcasing the ups and downs in my normal life so that they know what’s going in the Ramen and Crystals world.
