We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jada Shaw a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jada thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’d say the 2020 pandemic really helped me figure out I wanted to fully go into the arts umbrella for a career. Writing has always been something I loved to do, but when it comes to writing I like to do it with my creative freedom. 2020 was the year I got more interested in Classic Rock, and a band that truly inspired me the most was Guns N Roses. Listening to Steven Adler made me literally say “I wanna learn how to play the drums like he is!” And ever since then, being in the music field is something I have wanted to pursue. Being a Drummer and a music producer/editor is something I want to do professionally.
Jada, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’d say I’m proud that I’ve decided to be a drummer at my current age. Usually from what I’ve seen most musicians have been playing and learning since they were children, and I’ve decided to learn something new in my early 20’s. One thing I do is even post my progress from my very first drum lesson. I like to show how I started from the beginning which is not good, but for everyone to see that you can start from now knowing anything, to being amazing! Rock is my biggest inspiration, my favorite drummers being Steven Adler, John Bonham, and Roger Taylor. They have inspired how I play.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to one day be in a band, or even be a music producer or editor. Making music is something I truly want to learn. Even listening to my favorite rock album and listening to it is such a driving force that makes me want to play and have the same energy as that drummer.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew earlier about the website called Meetup. I found out there’s groups for upcoming drummers, and musicians are just starting out.
