Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada McGuin.
Hi Jada, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business based on my personal health journey. I went through quite a tough time at a critical period in my life and it was really tough. At a certain point, I took matters into my own hands and really dove into my health and that was really the turning point. That’s when I really started to see a change in myself. It led me to want to help others change.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been the furthest thing smooth. It’s truly been a roller coaster. I blew up really fast. I went from training a few people to having a full personal training schedule and working part time at a local private gym. After about a year and a half there, I wanted to take a chance on myself, so at 22 years old, I opened my own facility. Immediately after that, everything went down hill. We were coming off the pandemic, financially people just couldn’t afford personal training, which was totally understandable at the time. So after only 11 months open, I had to close. It was so painful. I had invested over 100,000 of my own money and felt like I had nothing to show for it. Luckily for me, I have a great friend, who’s also a fellow gym owner. He allowed me to move into his space so I could continue training. The original plan was to stay there for a year and then get my own place again, but that didn’t happen. As time went on, things got more and more expensive. I watched other gyms open and close. It was pretty hard to watch. I really had to consider if this was something I wanted to risk again, and by that time I was 25 and I just couldn’t. I spent about 2 years in a pretty tough state mentally. Especially since I felt that I had failed. Eventually I hopped on the virtual fitness train and released my own branded app. Its been wonderful, but still challenging to get consumer buy in.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
In 2025, I’m really pushing accessibility of fitness. I’ve had my own branded app for a year now. In the app, you can access programs, subscribe to virtual training, access to recipes and meal guides, and for my in person clients, it includes the ability to schedule sessions. I would say I’m known for my versatility as a trainer. I try to assist all my clients in whatever their goal may be. I definitely believe my qualifications are what set me a part from other trainers/gym owners. Not saying that you have to be degreed and certified to be a great trainer, I definitely think it gives me an edge. I have an undergraduate and graduate degree in kinesiology focusing on human movement science and exercise science, as well as several specialized certifications and an additional graduate degree in health administration. I learned the science behind things, which allows me to better explain to my clients “the why.” I want readers to know that my offerings are truly authentic. Everything I offer is science backed.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would say luck had something to do with it. When I was forced to close, my landlords had the right to sue me for the remainder of the lease, but chose not to. Being sued for almost $200,000 would not have been ideal for someone my age.
I’m one that believes everything happens for a reason. I chose to lease that building for a reason. I chose to be honest with my landlords about my financial struggles for a reason.
Luckily for me, it turned out to be in my favor even though it was the hardest moment in my life.
