We recently connected with Jada Marks and have shared our conversation below.
Jada , appreciate you joining us today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
A lot of my business comes from word of mouth. I have found that family and friends will gladly tell people about my business. I would say half my clients come from family or friends telling people about my business. Some of my friends have even became loyal clients. I also had an old friend think they could get special discounts or services done just because they were my friend. It’s hard to explain to some people that my business is not just for fun, my product and my time is how I make my money. That money is what pays my rent and bills for my business so I can stay open. But even with that bad situation with my old friend, I will always appreciate the love and support from my friends and family and hope they still come to me for services.
Jada , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve loved everything in the beauty industry since middle school. When I got into high school COVID hit, that when I had all the time in the world to do anything I wanted. That’s when I decided to try to learn a bunch of different services from the beauty industry. I tried nails and hair, and I like them but it wasn’t something that I thought I could do for the rest of my life. Then I learn about an esthetician, and I loved everything about it. After I graduated from high school, I had one month till my esthetician school started. When I went into school I already had a job offer at a small spa in Mankato. I officially took the job one month before I ended school. During school I wanted to finish so bad and start working I went every hour that they were open. I graduated early and started working as soon as my license came in. I worked at that spa for three months, till I found an open room to rent at Vida Suites. One of the things I loved about this industry was the ability to go out on your own and be your own boss. Before I even decided on what career I wanted to go into, I knew I wanted to be my own boss. So in April, I decided that it was time to reach one of my top career goals and start my own business. I open my business, Just Jada. I have loved every minute of being with my clients and everything about owning my business. I have amazing clients, they are never afraid to tell me what they love about my business. One thing I always hear is how they “love my business hours”. I have very open hours on different days so I can accommodate everyone’s schedules. What sets me apart from other estheticians is I love every single service I provide. I am extremely happy for every service that gets booked, there is not a single services that I would hate when it gets booked. I have a big range of services, because of this my clients can get everything done with me without having to go to a bunch of different estheticians. My services include different type of facials, full body waxing, lash extensions, and lash lifts and tints. Because of all my different services I have a big range of clients and I wouldn’t want it any other way. The one thing I strive for with all my clients is making them as comfortable as they can get. I never want my clients to ever feel embarrassed or uncomfortable about anything around me. I want all current and future clients to know that I will never judge them for anything. I think everyone deserves to feel beauty and comfortable in their own skin. That is why my slogan for my business is: “Just Jada, Just Because You Deserve It”. I think everyone deserves to look and feel beauty, that is why I provide reasonably prices professional services.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
When clients come in for services for the first time I always make sure they are leaving with a punch card and two business cards. The punch card helps keep clients coming back because after 10 service the 11th service is 30% off. And I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love a good discount especially when the prices are already very fair. Then I give them two business cards. One of the cards is for them to keep so they can rebook or get a hold of me if they need to. The other business card would have the clients name on the back. That card is a part of a referral program I do. When someone they know books a service and bring that card in, they get $5 off that day of the service and the original client will get $5 off the next time they come in for a service. The referral program helps to bring new clients in and keep clients coming back.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients will always be word of mouth. That is why I love my referral program because it makes people talk about my business.
