Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jada Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jada, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
When I was In the second grade I saw Hannah Montana and Rihanna for the first time . I wanted to be just like them . So I tried out for chorus and the rest is history . I’ve been writing my own personal music since I was 16 and for me it’s all about a vibe . I have to feel the emotion of the song whether it’s hype music or R&B every song has a story . Teaching myself how to write poetry in middle school really helped me understand rhyme schemes and cadencing the music I create today . I also workout so when I do workout I’m Practicing my vocals and will sometimes even perform . In the shower I get some of my best ideas cause that’s a time where I’m able to freestyle and get deep into my thoughts about the music I create . Some obsticals that’s stood in the way is definitely being consistent with writing. After HS I started college and had to get a job . So I let music go for a while . But during the pandemic I made time for myself and wanted to create again . Now I try to stay motivated and consistent everyday by even writing 4-8 bars .
When I create music it is based on my personality at that time or the mood . When I create rap or a hip hop flow it’s all about a turn up or getting lit . I consider myself a hood tomboy so I was never one twerking with the girls I was always in the crowd with the guys throwing my hands up and rapping lyric to lyric . I wanted to created a vibe that had no gender/sex attached .
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is JadaRe AKA Soufside Baby & I am From Atlanta , Ga . As a child I grew up in Riverdale Ga but moved around throughout my childhood in different Metro Atlanta areas . Atlanta is known for being the party city and it’s culture for music . Everywhere you go there is music playing , people lit and turnt up , and just all around creative art . I grew up in the hood so music was apart of everyone’s life . It was a way to either explain our reality or get away from our reality . It is just apart of who I am and I’ve known since I was 4 years old that I wanted to be an artist .
The journey has honestly been an rollercoaster and FAST . I dropped my first single “Popn” in March 2022 and it has reached 36k on Spotify and 7k+ on YouTube . I never expected my first song to reach past 100 viewers so for me that was overcoming a lot of milestones at once . The most exciting part of being an artist is performing , networking , and changing others lives through your music . I’ve performed at places like New Music Monday , Concert Halls , runway shows , balls /galas and so much more .
Some challenges I’ve had along the way is definitely being patient . I want everything to happen now and I’ve had to realize anything that comes too soon is never appreciated . So I try to be appreciate and grateful for everything that has come to me on this music journey .
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best way to support an upcoming artist is sharing their content and post. Most people think they have to buy something from us but in all honestly just showing up and sharing helps so much . Also , I think society needs to have an open mind that music is changing and female rap is thriving. Women are always put in a box of only speaking vulgarly in songs or sad songs but in all honestly we have so much more to bring to the table with music . So let us create and don’t judge a book by its cover .
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The first time I ever performed was at New Music Mondays . This is where you step in front of a panel of Coalition DJs across the world . Plus , it was at outkast studio ( Stanktonia ) so I was really nervous . I’ve played sports as a young child so I had to go in battle mode with myself . It was me against me at this point . I went on stage and did an Amazing job . When I performed I felt no fear . The crowed enjoyed my performance and even though I had all eyes on me it was an engaging type of moment . I knew from that moment that this is where I belong in society . I’ll never forget that day .
