We caught up with the brilliant and insightful June Totten a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jada June, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I’ve been Rodeo Trippin across the US for several years; however, as much as I enjoyed the sport, I found it challenging to find the perfect western attire to wear. I prefer my clothes to be stylish and comfortable. I started designing my outfits and wearing them. People loved what I created, and I decided to take it on a bigger scale. I strive to be a unique clothing and accessory brand that appeals to the modern day rodeo enthusiast. My brand relates to my peers and I am grateful for the positive response it has received.
Rodeo Trippin is a western clothing brand with authentic designs for males and females. To my knowledge, it is the only western clothing brand owned and operated by a teenager. I know what my peers like and I want to provide them with unique and authentic designs. Currently, my hats are carried in western chain stores, boutiques and are available on my website- rodeotrippin.com
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My social media growth and business idea came into my life unexpectedly, but I am so glad my fate took this path. It all started in high school, where I was the Idaho State Secretary for one year and then the Idaho High School State President for two years. Using my social media platform was the easiest way for me to remain in contact and communicate with my peers. My Vice President for my two-year tenure was my best friend, Chezni Woods. We are two peas in a pod and have a blast together.
Chezni and I traveled with my parents to rodeos nationwide. During our travels, we posted fun videos, pictures, and simple behind the scene footage of what happened at our rodeos. The two of us love to rodeo and showcase the western lifestyle that follows this sport. I am glad that so many people can learn about this activity and understand what goes behind it.
While my social media saw a growth spurt, my clothing business came into existence accidentally and unplanned as well. My high school state officers and I were brainstorming one day to raise money for our State Rodeo Association. We decided to create a fundraiser with clothing merchandise.
The designs we sold at the fundraiser were a hit, motivating me to try some more of my designs for myself. People liked the designs I wore to the rodeos and asked me to make some for them too. Hence, came into existence my small business Rodeo Trippin.
Currently, my clothing business carries t-shirts, long sleeves, sweatshirts, and hats. I am blessed to see something so much, and I am thankful for everyone that supports my brand.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My social media and my amazing followers have contributed to my brand’s success. They purchase products off my website, and I have had steady sales since the start of my business. Rodeo Trippin is also sold in the western chain stores. My products are doing exceptionally well in retail stores across the country, which is a plus point for new clients coming my way too.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My social media platform definitely helped my brand grow nationally and gain recognition- I even have customers in Canada!I believe that my style is relatable because I am a rodeo athlete. I know what cowboys and cowgirls want to wear when they are ranching or competing.
