Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacyn Alexis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jacyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mother was a entrepreneur, I watched her do it all with 4 kids and I can’t recall her ever complaining. Her strength to me is remarkable. When she passed away I promised I’d live the life that I saw in my head. So at the age of 21 I started my first business. My hair company “Crowned By Cyn.” I was never satisfied working for other people and at that time I was all into beauty and hair.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Jacyn Alexis, I’m a entrepreneur, model, & content creator. I started my first business at 19, modeling at 17, and content creating just a year ago. I’ve been this creative individual all my life. Growing up my parents supported majority of interest. My mother especially, she was always front and center. I’d say she gave me that “Go Getter” mentality. She didn’t allow me to fail, quit, or give up unless I had a valid reason. So my drive to become all that I am today stemmed from me losing her at the early age of 12. I tried the college route right after high school for a few years, wasn’t for me. Still wanted more, I was chasing this life in my head but couldn’t quite figure out how to obtain it. The beginning of 2018 I had a horrific car accident, me being ejected from a car. The accident left me pretty banged up, scarred my face pretty, broken bones, and overall had me depressed. My beauty, my bread and butter was damaged, so I thought. Many months went by, I was denied job after job. I started researching “How to create your own business?” I saved up enough money for my first LLC. August 2019 I created “Crowned By Cyn” my hair company. I started out selling lashes and hair bundles. I loved the creative aspect of building a brand. Color schemes, fonts, flyers, product pictures, the overall aesthetic! I then started to dive into the meaning and what problems my business could solve?
I did more and more research. My mother had lupus and eventually her sickness and medications made her become thin, dry, and brittle. She once had a head full of luscious long hair. She stopped wearing it out and wore a low slick ponytail majority of my life. I knew she missed her hair. The phrases “ When you look good, you feel good”, and “A woman’s hair is her crown and glory” were very true statements. So I wanted to play a part of building women’s confidence. That’s how I would promote it! I learned how to make wigs and helpful hair oils.
Then I moved onto the marketing side of this process. My colors, logos, packaging, freebies. Black and Gold were my colors, also my mother loved gold too. So those were fitting for me. Those two colors together symbolize power, formality alongside abundance, prosperity, and extravagance. Overall they reminded me of my mother! She honored in almost everything I do!
I became my own model to also give myself the exposure I was looking for. I know I’m a beautiful woman and I could represent my brand damn well. Before you knew it I was creating this dynamic for myself where I was everything and everywhere. I thought that was what it was about. Sadly mistaken, I was overloaded and overwhelmed with an excessive work load. I was in dire need of a team! But I didn’t trust people to run my business like me because of how personal it was to my heart, this was like my own little life story. I had to eventually let that guard down and get the help I needed.
Once I started to create a team, everything started falling into place. The website, the proper filing of paperwork, advertisement, and more. I was finally feeling like a real business woman. I’m now 4 years in and I’m still learning but I love this! I have since created 3 more businesses. Creating the life in my head and it evolves by the day.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Being my own billboard! Wearing my brand and representing it well.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Actually recently, I was overloaded and overwhelmed with work so I had to pause business to get my team back strong. As an owner we can be so tedious that we end up doing everything ourselves. That’s a gift and a curse, I have to trust the people I pay to be in these positions and believe they’ll execute my visions.
