Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacy “Prolific” Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jacy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I used to get in trouble for reading, and writing when I was a kid.
I’d get in trouble in school for reading in class because I wouldn’t read the lessons. I would read the “Fun” books.
I thought that if I had the book under my desk the teacher would see me reading my books.
I also thought that I was invisible when I was reading at my desk. But that was clearly not the case! 😆.
I would get in trouble for writing in my diary when I was 10 or so. My mom said that I was too young to be writing the things that I would write.
She never told me that my great great aunts that were still alive at the time, were poets.
It wasn’t until I was 22 in Dr. Elizabeth
Young’s Emphasis on Women Writer’s Eng. 102 class that I found out that what I had been getting in trouble for when I was kid, was actually me writing Poetry.
From that point I was invited to an Open Mic event for ThirtySomething Ent. by my friend and it opened the door to the world of Poetic Performance that I am part of today.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had known about the Poetry scene BEFORE I became an adult. It would have helped me with SO many things I went through as a teen and adulthood.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support Art! Pay for it. Purchase tickets for artistic performances in advance! Respect artists and art forms like you would respect any business!
