Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacqui Thompson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jacqui, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
I take motorcycle parts and accessories to create the artwork for our garments. The garments we offer are carefully selected to be comfortable and fit almost any body type.
Jacqui, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been fascinated in the fashion world. And wanted to create something different from the norm. And have an opportunity to support the women today. Encourage them to live their dreams and overcome fears. After attending a few biker rally’s and trying to find a shirt. It was the biggest frustration experienced. Nothing fit the same and the size on the shirt didn’t mean it would fit the way it should. Women deserve better! I got to thinking and was looking at parts for my bike. After sitting back I started to see the parts form shapes, That’s when the logo came to me and then it was finding the right name. Rosie the Riveter was an icon, a hero. Betty Boop added fun spicy and sexy fun. So, what will work for this idea? I remembered a story my Grandpa told me about going ashore and looking for a Betty. It’s also how he met my Grandma. A navy seaman and his ‘Betty’. That’s when I decided to name this venture, Biker Betty. With my amazing love by my side we worked for 5 years to continue to build our dream.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
December 2020 I lost my husband to a heartattack and was faced to continue our dream alone. Four months later I fell and ended up with a compound fracture of my forearm. It took a little to get back on my feet. But it didn’t stop me from moving forward. I was able to vend in Sturgis and a few more rallys.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
We have been slowly building our line of products over the years. Utilizing funds from sales to continue to build product lines and availability. Currently working to put this line into retail stores
