We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jacquelyn Vaz . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jacquelyn below.
Jacquelyn , appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My story started back in 2012, my mother became very ill and I was her caretaker. She knew my love and passion for fashion was real. She would say the sky is the limit and you can do all things through Christ. Sadly, my Angel passed on March 9, 2013. From that day on, I said I would do what I love. My good friend Monica and I both had the same vision of having a mobile boutique which we bought together and named it Twisted Vintage (my mother came up with the name) we worked at it as much as we could, however that came to an end in late 2015. On Jan 2, 2017, the love of my life, Jaxson Peyton Miller, was born. My fire for fashion was ignited once again. I noticed I never saw a store that catered to ladies and boys, yet you always see mommy and daughter or just kids stores. With that said, I wanted to bring something different for my queens and young kings. This is when Love J Style was born, The J represents myself and Jaxson. I’ve thought about it for years and finally said I would let 2020 be a good year and I went for it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Bringing attention to a mother son duo is what I bring to the table. How often do you see mother and son boutique? Never or rarely. My goal is to keep great products for boys and women as well as more matching outfits.
During my regular 9-5, I’m a Visual Stylist at Bloomingdales for the past 5 years , I specialize in styling and Visual Merchandising. If you’re ever in my store and see the lady mannequins, kid mannequins or visual decor hanging around, that’s what I do. I use the work I do on a regular within my business and I’m most proud of the work I can produce and how much I can showcase my talents. In addition, with every purchase with Love J Style a portion is donated to https://www.hopeysheart.org/
which is a foundation that was founded by my cousin in honor of my late mother.
This is what’s sets me apart from others as well as how much I pay attention to my clients and give Amazing customer service. I’m also a freelance stylist, personal shopper, and I also style from closets. I love to help my clients step out of the box and own their own runway.

We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
Yes, my old partner and I had a Fashion truck business called Twisted Vintage back in 2014-2015. This was when fashion trucks weren’t really the norm. We brought something new a truck that had a fitting room, air conditioner, and clothes ranging from small-3x galore to chose from. This is what set is apart as well as we had vintage items and new items available.
We had to sell because my partner had to move to North Carolina, and I was still selling insurance at the time and couldn’t handle it by myself. What I learned from this experience was you can really set goals and achieve them. Make a plan, set a timeline, see what will set you apart from the rest and trust God. I don’t see it as a failure but more so as another stepping stone to be where I am today.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clients for Love J style has honestly been word of mouth, social media and me being my own walking billboard when I’m out and about.
