We recently connected with Jacqueline Saldivar and have shared our conversation below.
Jacqueline , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk I’ve taken up until this day has been taking the risk to quit my previous job at the beginning of 2021 to start a small business on my own with barely any knowledge on how to start. Growing up my parents never pushed me go to college or even get a job because they always supported me financially. Once I graduated high school I had no idea what to study in college. So I randomly picked criminal justice. After 2 years of schooling I realized it wasn’t my passion. I struggled for years trying to find a career that really interested me until I discovered my love for makeup. I started watching YouTube videos and creating content but that wasn’t enough for me because I wanted more. So I went to beauty school and became a cosmetologist. That’s when I truly believed I was meant to be in the beauty industry. After graduating I became a freelance self taught makeup artist. I started doing makeup on friends, family and co workers. I was so invested in the beauty industry I decided to take a 2 day course at Envious Lashes NYC and continue working by also offering lash extensions. After a while I still wasn’t satisfied and decided to start working as a wax specialist part time and that’s when I realized my other passion. I worked very hard and it took me years to finally find a career I truly enjoy. I always knew I wanted to work for myself and after covid on march 2021 thats when I finally build the courage to start my own small business as a was specialist. It was the biggest risk due the the economy and very scary because I didn’t have much savings but I had the support of my parents and my biggest supporter my sister! Even though very few believed in me she was always there. I am so thankful for her and for myself because I believed I could push myself to become successful. I am so happy and blessed to have the clientele I have today because they have supported me since day 1 and continue to support me.
Jacqueline , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started BARE SKIN STUDIO LLC in March 2021. With previous experience in body waxing, facials, lash extensions and makeup. At my salon suite I offer full body waxing and facial services. The first year I worked very long hours such as 12 hours a day staying 6 days a week in order to build my clientele and squeezing in clients to build that loyalty. I was so happy so many people supported me. I am mostly proud of my drive to continue to grow not only as a small business owner but as a wax specialist as well. I take my craft very serious and I take online courses to continue learning. I believe what sets me apart from others is the fact that I very real and blunt and love my craft. I connect with my clients daily by offering them a space that makes them feel super comfortable and not scared to speak to me and trust me as a professional.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media is all about consistency. I learned how to create content that allows your audience to learn visually and also post content that educates them as well. I think it’s super important to continue to learn and show everyone how great you’re at your craft. My advice for anyone starting would be to never give up on posting content because social media had a huge impact on my growth as a business owner. I gained a lot of clientele from instagram and TikTok as well as google reviews
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me the most was word of mouth. I can say 100% off my clientele has referred me to their friends and family. If they love your craft they will refer you! Make sure you always provide the best service you can because it comes a long way.
