Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacqueline Romano. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jacqueline, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
One of the first clients I had since starting my video production business came to me already knowing what video content they needed, which isn’t always the case. Their line of work is not easy to describe in website copy, it is better understood through a visual experience and, like many small business owners will do, they had already invested a solid amount of time and energy attempting to create video content on their own. They were preparing to launch their first online course, and after seeing some of my past mini-documentary work, hired me to create a bio video, a course introduction video, video testimonials and some additional video clips for social media marketing.
In the first year since using the videos I created for them, they raised their prices due to high demand for one-on-one sessions, increased their revenue by 400% and after having much success with their first online course, they created additional higher value courses for clients who wanted to continue learning from them. This client also ended up in a business partnership with someone who once seemed like a moonshot to collaborate with, and is now writing their own book.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a documentary filmmaker and video content producer creating in South Florida and New York. I often travel to other areas of the world to film people and their stories. For over 10 years, I’ve helped individuals, small businesses, and organizations share what they’re doing, and why, in a relatable and inspiring digital format so that the best investors, customers, or clients can connect with their cause. In short, I make beautiful content to share your story online. Origin story videos and mini-documentaries are my specialty.
My work has helped inspire policy change, business partnerships, investments and has acted as a tool to raise thousands of dollars in donations. I believe that this is rooted in the careful thought and strategy I put into building each story to create heart-centered connection and thought-provoking impact. What really excites me is supporting others in sharing the meaningful work they feel called to do in the world by using video to capture their magic and to share with others what calls to their heart.
Have you ever had to pivot?
From 2016-2019, I ran a socially conscious online magazine called Blindfoldmag.com. I developed and produced a twelve episode mini-doc series that told the stories individuals who used moments in their lives where they overcame adversity to inspire a career in activism or advocacy. As a result of releasing these videos, the people we featured received incredible feedback and results including receiving $35,000+ in donations, a campaign partnership with high-profile celebrities, and over 200,000 video views. By the end of 2019, I started to imagine how fulfilling it would be to help entrepreneurs and organizations doing meaningful work in the world while at the same time empowering myself starting my own female lead video production business. I made the decision at that point to shift my focus from Blindfoldmag.com, into putting myself out there as a small business owner. It takes a lot of courage to believe in yourself, but I am proud of what I have been able to build so far and the many ways I have been able to help people since starting my business.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Of all of the ways that I put myself out there, the most effective has been to do my best work every time I create a new project. That involves both making the experience as easy as possible for the client by communicating clearly and listening to their needs, but also putting careful thought into building each story to create heart-centered connection and thought-provoking impact so that the end product aligns with who the client is, and what their goals are for the video. The client will then refer me directly to others, and also shout me out when they share their videos online, which inspires others to reach out to me.
