We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jacqueline Nguyen & Tina Vo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jacqueline Nguyen & Tina Vo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
The balloon industry has undergone a remarkable transformation compared to its state a decade ago. It’s important to always find ways to challenge ourselves and think outside the box. When our clients provide us with a theme or specific color scheme, we find joy in exploring different avenues to enhance the installation by introducing various elements beyond mere balloons. We love integrating gems, fringe, and custom cut-outs into our designs. The possibilities for incorporating elements into our creations are boundless, limited only by our imagination. We love having fun with it and just letting our imagination run wild.
Jacqueline Nguyen & Tina Vo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We’re Jacqueline and Tina, the founders of Balloon Ladies Co. We are based in SoCal, specializing in luxury balloon installations and designing one-of-a-kind decorations for events. We take great joy in assisting our clients in bringing their visions to life and creating memories that are truly unforgettable. We are truly most proud of how far we’ve come in this industry. Balloon Ladies started out as a side hustle which then became our full-time careers. We absolutely love what we do & are so grateful for all the amazing people we’ve connected with along the way.
Have you ever had to pivot?
We both began our careers in the fashion industry and never in our wildest dreams did we imagine ourselves working with balloons. Two years ago, we both made the bold decision to take a leap of faith and pursue this path full-time. We left behind our established careers, embarking on a journey filled with uncertainty about where it might lead us. It was undeniably one of our most frightening yet liberating experiences. While unsure of the ultimate outcome, we were determined to invest our hearts and souls into this new venture. We are incredibly grateful for taking that leap, as it opened doors to numerous wonderful opportunities from the moment we made the decision to leave our previous careers behind.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Balloon Ladies started off as just something we did for fun on the weekend for friends and family. At the time we were both working full-time and never anticipated that this would become our primary career. This journey has been an extraordinary learning experience for us. One of our earliest indicators that we were on the right path was a significant business investment. After a year of renting a box truck every weekend, we took a major step forward by acquiring our very own company cargo van.
