We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jacqueline Moran a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jacqueline, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to teach and inspire others with the power of healing crystals and stones by supporting holistic well being and connecting back to nature. Moon Mama was born to bring you into alignment with your higher self and to enjoy the unique and captivating designs created from Mother Earth.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Before I started my business, I was feeling lost in my personal life. At the time I was lacking purpose and most importantly, fun. In an attempt to find myself again, I started journaling, meditating daily and focused heavily on nurturing my mental and emotional well-being. During this process I started to incorporate crystals into my self-care as a reminder of what energy I needed to harbor that day. For example, Carnelian to instill confidence, Sodalite for a clear mind, Citrine to radiate joy, Rose Quartz for compassion, etc.. I also challenged myself to think back to a time when I felt like I was truly in my element. For me- that time was when I worked at a boutique. I thrived from helping others find the perfect items to embody their best self and I loved sharing that excitement with each client. I always knew I wanted to own a boutique one day but it was more of a fantasy for the future, a “one day when I hit the lottery” type of dream. However, in my time of deep self reflection, I started to let go of some of the more rigid outlines I had created of what things needed to look like. As I started riding the wave of going with the flow and releasing expectations, my thoughts began to expand. Why couldn’t I have my own boutique now? Would it look exactly the same as I had originally envisioned? No- it could be even better. I started researching and everything started to fall in place. I created my business name, got my certifications, and registered Moon Mama as an online resale shop. What started out as strictly an online boutique has continued to evolve over time. Now in addition to online sales, I started doing in person events, personal home parties, wholesale for other businesses, creating jewelry myself, and doing custom pieces for clients.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I feel that people purchase from me because I’m genuine in teaching about the product and I like what I’m doing- it’s fun for me! If you find yourself skeptical of crystal energy, I won’t ever try to change your mind. If nothing else, it’s still a beautiful piece of jewelry that makes a statement. I have and will always feel like that translates really well to people and I attract clients that way. Word of mouth has always been my most effective strategy for my growing business.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
In addition to my online shop, I do in person events and home parties. I have some free standing displays in salons, and I offer wholesale to a local boutique. I am hoping to expand to even more businesses in the near future. I also really enjoy the personal aspect of home parties, I bring lots of items to pass around and teach my audience about the properties of each individual piece. Those are the most fun and I love meeting new people that way so I hope to continue booking those as well.
