We were lucky to catch up with Jacqueline Galvin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jacqueline, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
My story is more related to how I wrote my most impactful book, Grace for Grant: A Journey with an Old Soul. I have had my business since 2002 and have done freelance writing and speaking along with a full-time medical position until 2017 when I was laid off. At that point I needed a rest. My son had died from a brainstem tumor at 19 and it was time to take a step back. His last wish was to have the story written and shared with the world. During the pandemic, I gathered all the notes and Facebook posts that described his journey, and ours, The process was not simple, but cathartic and the result was a memoir that has not only helped me but others as well.
The book was finished in eighty-five days; a quick turnaround in literary circles. It has won literary awards and hopefully fulfilled the wish of Grant Miller Galvin.

Jacqueline, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
One of my Christmas presents when I was eight years old was a typewriter. I immediately took to it creating stories out of thin air. From there it morphed into journalism degree and jobs in PR and sales, all the while still writing on the side. Since 2017 we have been traveling and blogging while writing a mystery series. The Tucker and Reggie series includes Death in Paradise: Secrets of the Croquet Club which released in December, and three upcoming books releasing in 2025. Our brand promotes lifestyle choices with an emphasis on reading, travel, and speaking on topics of personal interests. My presentation “Do You have a Book in You?” addresses the process of determining that you want to write a book, the topic, the treatment, and how to pull it together. It also addresses the life curves we all endure and how to make them work for you rather than against you. For some, it’s not whether to write, but how to make it work for your good and those around you.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission has changed over time. We love sharing our travels; describing the history and authenticity of the places we are fortunate enough to visit. Our mystery series is a cozy series, meant for light entertainment, humor, romance and twisty, turny paths to the outcome. While these are important for giving the reader an escape for just a time, the memoir has provided an unforeseen byproduct which has prompted me to begin a path to speaking to others about surviving loss, grief, and living for the future rather than the past. The publishing of the book was for Grant, but the outcome has been a resource for others to help understand that they are not alone in the world of sudden change and life-altering events.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
All paths lead to knowledge and understanding of why you are where you are. The misfortunes in life are there for a reason whether we like to think so or not. Our family was put in the position of a mysterious illness that did not reveal itself until the very end. We had to live every day not knowing what would happen from start to finish. There were steps forward followed by heart-wrenching setbacks. We took these one day at a time and the writing of Grace for Grant was a way to understand my place in helping others know that the pain of loss never goes away but does not have to determine the rest of your life. During the illness, my ex-husband was fired from his job by an uncaring, brutal company. He, my boyfriend (now fiance as of this writing and holiday) and I banded together to make it through the five-month battle with an unstoppable, fatal disease. My ex-husband moved back home and the three of us managed day to day supporting each other, cooking together and keeping the faith for three years when we finally sold the family home.
