We were lucky to catch up with Jacqueline Coronado recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jacqueline, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
I was working full time as a personal assistant at the time and honestly I had a gut feeling that change was coming. I was working on the side as a photographer but was never able to step away from my other job permanently. However, during my lunch breaks I would look for clients online whether it was company websites or even Craigslist. And Craigslist was actually the thing that gave me my first client. It was a pretty big gig that required my Studio Photography skills and I immediately sent in my portfolio, had a quick phone call with them, and scored a deal. Two weeks later, I quit my job and never looked back.
Jacqueline, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a local San Diego Product and Lifestyle Photographer emphasizing in E-Commerce brands. I was raised by parents who allowed to follow a dream I never gave up on and having a father who taught me how to shoot film photography when I was 7 years old. I shoot anything from Amazon Photography to Christmas cards. I’m most proud of the variety of things I am able to shoot because I just love working with people who have a vision and give me the opportunity to create it for them.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly Instagram has been a lifesaver. Reaching out to brands of all kinds has really worked for me. It allows me to communicate with their marketing department right away. Whereas emails get lost pretty quickly with my experience when pitching to potential clients.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Making people happy. That is by far the most rewarding experience. Seeing smiling, exciting faces and hearing positive feedback feeds my soul.
