Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacqueline Becker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jacqueline, thanks for joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
My first job was at an outpatient clinic in New Jersey right after graduation from PT school. Our management class was taught by an adjust professor Dr. Kover, from the local clinic, and i suppose i caught his eye because he asked me to work for his clinic. It was one clinic in a large number under a corporate umbrella, and Dr. Kover actually oversaw 19 different clinics. I started with him prior to receiving my official PT license as a PT in waiting, and continued to work under his tutelage for the next 4 years in multiple clinics eventually becoming a center manager myself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I stumbled onto PT due to a classmate being injured in college and she went to the on campus clinic, and informed me that they took volunteers. I fell in love with the work from there and attended PT school post university graduation. I’ve worked in acute care, outpatient, and home health until starting my own company doing outpatient mobile therapy. The novelty of this company is that we come to your home and you receive one on one care without the hassle or travel, or dealing with multiple therapist, and you receive individualized care.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would still go into physical therapy. I do enjoy my career immensely, I think what I would do differently is go out on my own earlier. Running my own business was always a plan, but I was fearful as to how to get started, so I delayed due to my own fears. Looking back I should have taken the leap earlier!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective marketing technique is word of mouth. It has worked wonders for the growth of my business. I have been able to obtain more patients and clientele though reviews and word of mouth stories and patient referrals vs. any marketing techniques I have learned.
