Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacob Spaur. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jacob, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission as an artist is to share positive influence, love and inspiration. I come from a history of abuse and heavy addiction. I’m blessed to have climbed out of the depth of those pits. I hope to share the tools I’ve gained in overcoming addiction, methods of mindfulness and biological peak Performance.
I’ve started a youth and community outreach called PYS and our mission is to share art and adventure with youth and the community. This facilitates an healthy artistic environment, where we can share our pearls of this human experience.
I’ve had more friends and family die from addiction and end up in prison than I can count. I’m blessed with the gift of gab and the curse of a cunning linguist and I feel I’m here for a reason. I am passionate about this mission and I’m all in. I’ve committed to transparency (with the inevitability of extreme self degradation) and spilling guts to help even a single person.
Thank you for helping me along this journey of sharing strength love and knowledge.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I had a very influential Tattooer tell me early in my tattoo career that it was important to make every client your best friend. At that time in the Tattoo world it was pretty prevalent to be an arrogant asshole to clients.
I think it was Tony Robbins that said something similar like, “ find something you love in every person you work with”.
I think this information has been one of the most important pearls I’ve gained. Loving people, caring about people and not just getting paid has become more important (getting paid is important too but not the only focus).
To remember things a client talked about during a consultation or previous sessions and ask them how that stuff is going, means a lot to people.
If a person is being difficult, I make a point to get on the level and be as empathetic as possible while being firm in my mission. Tattoos are generally about self efficacy, individuality and our manifestations. I focus on treating the client kind and respectfully while rockin out some rad art.
Also never stop creating art and learning about tools, technique and application. Use the skill or lose the thrill.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I was raised in an abusive, drug/alcohol plagued household. I was in and out of juvenile facilities and my first troubled youth survival camp was about 11 years old (I was the youngest kid there). I went to prison just after my 19th birthday. My three felonies were for robbery, forgery, and escape. I was involved with organized crime, drug sales, and robberies. I got out just after my 25th birthday and have changed everything. My final relapse was approximately eight years ago. Since then I’ve focused on helping others overcome their addictions and sharing a luster for life.
