We recently connected with Jacob Sigman and have shared our conversation below.
Jacob, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
Best investment is yourself. Every time. Don’t go after low hanging fruit, don’t go hunting for the perfect producer. Work, learn, grow. Spend money on you, on lessons, on gear.
Jacob, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jacob Sigman. I’m a singer songwriter based in LA by way of Detroit, Michigan. I’ve toured the country, performed on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and self produced and released a handful of records.
If there’s one thing I want you to know about me, it’s what I’m doing next. I’m sick of the music industry. Labels, Ticketmaster, Promoters.. Everyone wants a cut and Artists are left fighting one another over pennies on the dollar. No more. I’m launching a new concert series. A live-band silent disco, bringing music back to the people and control back to the artists. I don’t want to say too much more now but I hope you’ll follow along with this journey.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
To best support artists, society needs to make legal changes to help protect artists and songwriters’ intellectual property and find a way to help artists make a living wage. As every day people? Honestly sometimes the best help is buying a T-shirt, and sharing the music when it drops.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’m kind of in the midst of a pivot. I moved to LA and now I’ve found myself shifting more away from comedy driven short-form content and into more music focused and ambitious longform projects. I don’t know if it will do as well as the funny stuff did, probably not. But I realized that what my life as an artist to look like can never ever ever be dictated by how other people see me or else the whole game is over before it even started.
