Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacob Moon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jacob thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If I could go back in time I would have pursued my passion and intention, with more drive; and started sooner. Growing up in a small and conservative town, being a boy in beauty wasn’t something widely approved; and with a history of bullying and harassment, I was so scared to share what I loved outside of my safe spaces like theater and dance. My passion for makeup seriously started in my junior year of high school and I remember staying up really late or waiting until I was home alone and practicing, watching YouTube videos, and sometimes washing it all off and starting over again. However, when the pandemic hit, I finally took the step to share more of my makeup looks and put so much effort into learning all I could about social media, especially TikTok. Since then I have had the chance to work with some very large brands (Sephora, Merit, Garnier, etc.) and if I could have given myself the advice to not care so much about what others think, and share what makes me unique, I feel I could have been even farther along than I am now.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For people who don’t know much about me, the fact that theater was my biggest introduction to makeup and beauty, should then describe how I approach beauty and content creation. I love bringing themes, characters, and stories to life while still staying true to beauty trends and being authentically me. I provide product reviews, modeling, static and video content, and modeling services to brands (both big and small) in the beauty space. I think what sets me apart from others is my real approach to my content. Relatability, honesty, and being genuinely myself is what has helped me make those connections whether on social media or on set. I think I bring something very different to the beauty space regarding my makeup looks and as a plus size, Latino, queer, and male creator, I like to live loud, proud and in color! My proudest achievement thus far has been working with Sephora on social media content and modeling for them! Seeing my face on their website fulfills a dream I have always had and honestly never thought I would get to come to fruition. Finally, the most important thing to know about me is every project I work on has a little touch of Jacob to it. No one can do things the way that I do and I hope that people see that and put their trust in me to deliver on their needs while still being true to my brand.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Right now, I truly think society could focus on supporting smaller creatives who do good work. I know that brands and businesses like to work with people who have large followings and a large fan base, because that is what sells. However, reaching into untapped spaces and working with micro influencers, or just smaller creatives, could really open a lot of doors for the people you hire, and can expand your audiences in ways that celebrities can’t do!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The overall goal and mission of my work specifically is to show that queer, plus size, and brown boys belong in the modeling and beauty industry. There are many people like me who have only seen thing, white, and perfect people in social media, on runways, and in the press. However, I really hope that my content and who I am as a person can be a shining example that no room or space is off limits. Bring YOU to the table and watch things take off!
