Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacob Grapevine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jacob, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
One of the biggest trends in dentistry is the desire for cosmetic smile makeovers. Patient’s are desiring more options when it comes to smile makeovers. They want quick, competitively priced options. One way I am answering this call to action is with composite resin veneers. This is a great option for patients who do not want their teeth shaved down like they do with traditional porcelain veneers and the price point is quite a bit lower per tooth. I also love this option because it is so custom. Patients who come to my office are treated to a smile preview appointment first, where I am able to discuss the patients goals for color and shape of teeth. Then, I am able to place temporary composite on teeth for an immediate smile try on experience. Patients love this as it really helps them narrow down what they are looking for in their new smile. From there we can discuss how many teeth they would like to include. I have found that for a full smile it takes about 8 front teeth composite veneers. This will of course vary case by case. Once we have settled on a plan the appointment will be scheduled and the composite resin veneers will be applied. This can be done in a one day appointment. Patients leave feeling great as there are no shots or numbing required for this treatment!

Jacob, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I became a dentist because I interned with a dentist in my small home town, when I was in high school. I loved the difference a smile can make. It can really be a confidence booster for patients when they feel good about their smile. I have continued to grow and train in my craft by taking continuing education courses, joining study clubs with other dentists and seeking out mentors to coach me personally. There are really different levels of dentistry and I want to treat the patient as a whole not just “watch a tooth!” It really brings me joy when I am able to help a patient who has been struggling with Tempomandibular Disorder (TMJ). I have extensive training in treating this complex condition and have been able to help many patients who were shuffled around the medical or dental field and who felt very misunderstood. The symptoms can really vary person to person and each person has a different experience. I work with a great team of referring professionals to ensure we get to the root cause of the issue and get the patient feeling better. I would encourage patients to ask questions when they are looking for a dentist. I have found that many of the corporate companies that run the dental offices do not seem to have the patient’s best interest at heart. It is all about the bottom line. I am a small business owner who treats families. I have watched kids grow up and have kids of their own. This matters to me to be a trusted member of the community.

Can you talk to us about your experience with buying businesses?
I have bought two dental practices in Plano, TX. Both purchases were from doctors who were very well known and prestigious in the community. I learned a lot from this process. Mainly patience. As a new doctor coming out of school, you have lots of ideas but not much actual business experience. I realized I needed to take it slow and not make drastic changes right away. You have to earn the patient’s trust and it takes time for the staff of the office to respect you and get behind your vision. I used several different consulting groups to help establish my mission, vision and values and to establish processes and procedures to follow.
The mission of our office is to create a caring environment in order to provide high quality dental care for our patients through excellence, education and encouragement.
We are dedicated to serving each patient as one of our own family. We will strive to provide you with a comfortable and courteous environment.
In order to service you with excellence we will:
Listen to your individual needs and desires
Educate you of your current condition
Provide treatment options that address your dental issues
Provide a relaxed environment to allow open communication about your dental care
A team that is dedicated to remaining up to date in dental education
Maintain a conservative approach that helps our patients preserve their teeth and enjoy a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Nothing makes us happier than sharing the gift of a smile.
Knowing the mission of the office keeps us on track.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I was very fortunate to have a patient that is a social media influencer. She has quite a following and is well-known in the fitness industry. This has been a very beneficial relationship as not only has she referred me a lot of patients but she has helped me build my Instagram following. She gave me tips on how to use the hashtags and how to create a consistent theme in the grid to build my brand. I treated her TMJ and she was so grateful and was happy to spread the word of the process and how much she loves her composite resin smile makeover.
