We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jacob Carter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jacob below.
Alright, Jacob thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue an art career was in elementary school. I always drew comics in school and a lot of my friends and classmates would read them. I enjoyed watching them read what I had made. They would always tell me how good I was, and they usually would ask me to draw their favorite characters on tv or anime. Some would even offer me money. Thats when I knew I wanted to pursue a career. It was what I loved to do, and for someone to want to compensate me for my trouble felt good.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those of you who don’t know, I am an artist in every sense of the word. I go by JMC ART which is the name of one of my businesses. I started it shortly after graduating college and have been going strong ever since. It takes a lot of discipline and dedication to run a business, but I have taken on the challenge head on JMC ART is a full-service art business. I offer custom commissioned work, as well as JMC originals which is artwork from my personal collection. Lately, JMC ART has been undergoing several projects that will be seen in the near future. These projects include merchandise, new affiliates, and even children’s books. JMC ART offers the best in custom logos, and artwork. I pride myself in working closely with clients to ensure that they get exactly what they envision the work to be. I feel that good relationships are important and should be established to build a rapport. As an artist, there have been many times that I’ve felt stagnant, but I’m always reminded how far I’ve come. Over the past 8 years, JMC has garnered the attention of several notable celebrities, Kel Mitchell (Kenan & Kel) and Michael Rainey Jr (Tariq from Power) to name a few. Moments like that have been part of the reason I continue to do what I do.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I believe NFT’s are the future. In fact, over the first quarter of 2022, my friends and I collaborated on a NFT that is based on the city of Detroit. The character is called “Lenny the Lion”. He represents the swag of the city, (cartier glasses, nice beard, cool and collected demeanor). It is available to be bought on open sea which is the central location for the buying and selling of NFT’s. For those of you who don’t know, NFT stands for “Non Fungible Token” which is an asset that u purchase on a blockchain (think cryptocurrency) and it is recorded every time you sell or buy. I believe that collecting NFT’s are the future of how assets and artwork are collected and then resold instead of physically having to obtain a work of art.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is being able to do what others cannot do. Being able to bring another individuals’ vision to life is maximum satisfaction. Also, being able to transfer what is in your own mind and transfer it to a specific medium is also rewarding.
