We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jacob Barnett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jacob below.
Jacob , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
In the last 7 months, I have stepped into music as a full time job. I have been drumming around the Knoxville, Greater Tennessee area. Though I’m just getting my start here, I feel like I’ve gained some great Jackson. I’ve had the opportunity to play with 40+ artists in and around Knoxville

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I appreciate being invited back on, a lot has changed, but my goals have stayed relatively consistent. Since our last interview, I have made the full time transition into music. Getting in where I can fit in. I’ve had the opportunity to play with over 40 artist this year, from jazz to hard rock, the genres have been vast and many. This year was great for me in the since that I was able to make some great connections. Currently, I’m in three bands full time at the moment, “Orange” + “Post Theta” & “FbcLc” I’ve also helped out with multiple open mics around town as house drummer with host like John Mason and Chris Marshall. I couldn’t be more happy with how this year has gone, I’ve gotten to play over 50 shows this year, all without spending a dime on promotion or booking. Forever grateful for the love Knoxville artists have shown me

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, I love being able to have control over my time. I also don’t want to be doing something I can’t stand to make a living. I’ve been unbelievably grateful for music in this regard as this year, I’ve finally been able to have that control without dreading getting up in the morning. It’s been so refreshing doing things on my own time, making new connections not having to worry about a set timeline

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think one of the biggest things to remember is to stay consistent, the last time we did this article I would have had no idea what the next 6 months would have entailed growth wise. I’ve learned you don’t have to be the best player in the room to get the gig. In my experience, attitude gets you the most out of everything. Be kind, be on time, be hungry for it. Everything else will work itself out
