We recently connected with Jacob Barfield and have shared our conversation below.
Jacob, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Originally I wanted to be a carpenter. I planned on starting my own woodworking business. But when I went out to California to learn about glasswork from my stepdad in the hopes of being able to combine glasswork with woodwork I decided to change my career path and pursue glass fulltime since I enjoyed working with it so much.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a high-end glass artist. I use glass to create different styles of sculptures that produce a variety of different effects. My main ambition is to produce the highest quality work on the market.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I began seeing growth on social media when I focused on providing value in the content. When you provide something valuable with you brand people want to see more. Consistency is also a crucial thing when it comes to social media.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
That being an professional artist means just making art. The reality is that if you want to be a professional artist you’re going to spend a lot of time learning skills required to run a business. Most of these skills will probably have nothing to do with your art but are required to run a business.
