We recently connected with Jacob Anderson and have shared our conversation below.
Jacob , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The mission of Ratherbe Outdoors is to show that adventure, exploration, and camping don’t have to be expensive and that time in nature can be a powerful way to relieve stress and anxiety. By using creativity, resourcefulness, and DIY solutions, we prove that anyone can enjoy the outdoors without spending a fortune. Whether it’s repurposing gear, building survival tools, or finding budget-friendly ways to camp and explore, we aim to inspire others to get outside, embrace adventure, and experience the mental and emotional benefits of being in nature.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Our origin story is deeply personal and rooted in a lifelong passion for the outdoors. My love for nature began as a kid, exploring the wilderness with my father in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We spent summers camping, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and picking berries. At one point, we even had a sailboat harbored in Drummond Island, which we visited every week in the summer. These experiences taught me the value of adventure, resourcefulness, and a deep connection to nature lessons that have shaped who I am today.
One of our most memorable adventures took a dramatic turn in 2015 when my dad had to be rescued by the Coast Guard from Manitou Island. It was a humbling experience that reinforced both the beauty and the challenges of the wilderness, and it further fueled my passion for outdoor preparedness and survival.
Ratherbe Outdoors was born from that passion, with a mission to show that adventure doesn’t have to be expensive. Through DIY projects, survival challenges, and budget-friendly camping, we inspire others to explore and enjoy the outdoors without spending a fortune.
As for products, we’re currently working on a Ratherbe Outdoors merch line, featuring outdoor apparel, gear, and accessories designed for adventure seekers. We’ve also collaborated on product testing and giveaways, with plans to expand into practical outdoor essentials.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The best way to keep views coming back is by staying consistent and really paying attention to both the audience and the analytics. Posting regularly helps keep people engaged, but it’s just as important to watch things like retention, click through rates, and what videos are actually bringing viewers back. I also make sure to respond to comments and messages because building that connection with the audience keeps them invested. At the end of the day, it’s about creating content people want to watch while staying adaptable based on what’s working.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new viewers has been a mix of social media promotion, collaborations, and constantly experimenting with new content. We use platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Discord to funnel people to our YouTube channel, and we’ve had success running giveaways both on our own and with companies to attract new audiences. We also try out different content ideas to see what resonates, whether it’s DIY builds, survival challenges, or unique outdoor adventures. This combination helps us reach new viewers while keeping things fresh and engaging.
