We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaclyn Gallo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jaclyn , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
When I was a 21 year old college student, I sat in a corporate internship questioning what I really wanted out of life.
I wondered “Is this it? Is this the best its ever going to get?”
I knew that there had to be more out there for me.
With no experience and no savings, I took a leap of faith and pursued my first business idea.
It was a total failure and I spent more than $50,000 on ideas that never made it off the ground. Applying the lessons from the failures I experienced, I built a thriving company that helps women use their failures as a springboard to create their dream lives, just like I did.
6 years later, I’ve coached hundreds of women, published 2 best-selling books, and I’ve spoken on over 125 stages at conferences, corporations and universities in 7 countries, including the Tedx stage.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi- I’m Jaclyn :) I’m a speaker, life coach and author.
I’m on a mission to help millions of people create lives they love. I do this through my speaking engagements, books, podcast episodes, social media content and my online courses.
One of the things I am most proud of is the Spark Your Light podcast. We have over 60,000 downloads with listeners in 94 countries. Tune in every Monday for your weekly dose of inspiration to help you achieve your biggest life goals.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The moment I needed the most resilience in my journey was after my second major failure. I had been pursuing my entrepreneurial dreams for 2.5 years without anything to show for it. I was in the middle of a beta test for an app my company built and anything that could have went wrong, did go wrong. I realized at this moment that I either had to raise more money and start the app from scratch, or I had to pivot. My passion for the app was weening, but I also felt like I would never be successful with entrepreneurship, Regardless of my direction, I had so much evidence that I wasn’t cut out for this.
I wanted to give up on my dreams so badly, but there was a soft voice inside of me that kept me going. I now know that the voice I heard was courage, and I believe that courage is the result of having a little bit more self-belief than fear. You can hear the full story on my Tedx talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IitIgGHsPWw
While my self-belief was definitely at an all time low, I knew deep down that I could figure this out. I then had an idea to start speaking and sharing my story of persevering through multiple failures. This was the beginning of the business I have today.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The book that has made the biggest difference time and time again in my entrepreneurial journey is The One Thing by Gary Keller.
As an entrepreneur with many ideas, this book reminds me to narrow my focus and spend my time on the true needle movers. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is pursuing a big goal in their life.
