We were lucky to catch up with Jacklyn Rassmussen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jacklyn, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Northern Ties… Being from Minnesota, Northern State. I live north of the twin cities. Grew up in the north so I knew North/Northern had to be in the name (and a tree). Ties comes from reverse tie dye which is a technique that changes the coloring of clothing by removing the color with bleach. Northern Ties was born.
Jacklyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started Northern Ties after being furloughed from my graphic design job in March of 2020. I spent my last dollars on 2 $6 hoodies from Walmart and bleached them. I started selling to friends and family and by June I was a registered LLC. TikTok really grew my business, social media in general.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
The checks that came monthly from Covid, I would pay my bills but the rest would go towards this business. I literally put my last $100 into this business
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
TikTok. Amazing. Every business should be on there. Highest reach in my opinion
