We were lucky to catch up with JACKIE WHITE recently and have shared our conversation below.
JACKIE, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
There are so many things you need in order to be successful. The first and most important is faith. You have to have faith in the things you can not yet see. Growth takes patience and time. Second would be belief, belief in yourself and your ability to achieve and accomplish any goal you put your mind to. Third, would be action. You have to be ready to take the correct actions. Fourth would be education. Strive to open your mind to reading and learning it helps with personal evolution. Fifth is consistency. Show up for yourself because you create your dreams and see them through to reality. Sixth is discipline you have to keep going and show up for yourself even when you feel unmotivated.

JACKIE, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My love for planning events started years ago watching David Tutera on My Fair Wedding. I wanted to know how these events came to life! I realized my love for organizing, creativity, and problem solving and began planning my daughter’s birthday parties, and later planned friends and family events. In 2014 I became certified in event management and decide to become a business owner.
Joyous Beginnings Events is an upscale boutique event and wedding planning firm. I started this business because understand how event planning can be stressful when people aren’t able to find what they are looking for after spending countless minutes and hours searching for their event needs, & are left feeling burnt out. Life is busy and people really don’t have the time to try and figure this all out themselves! It’s my goal to make sure people stay positive, encouraged, & connected to the right vendors for their event during their event planning journey! Joyous Beginnings Events plans date nights, proposals, weddings, showers, birthdays and more!
Our services include full, partial, and intimate event planning as well as wedding day coordination. Once you hire us we will be having a JOYOUS time!
I am most proud of our annual event started in 2021 called the Dreamcatchers Networking Event. This luxury networking event was created to help entrepreneurs & businesses professionals who are just getting started or are already in business build the connections they need to be successful. We’ve met some fantastic business professionals and cant wait to host this years event and meet more great business professionals. For our 2022 event we will be asking for donations to aid research to cure cancer and proceeds from this event will be going to the leukemia and lymphoma society.
The main takeaway for Joyous Beginnings Events would be that I love to do everything with JOY in my heart, being a resource to others and giving them peace of mind is my favorite thing about my business!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
This year has been the year I have had to pivot. As we grow in our lives, we are constantly pivoting from one situation to the next. There are always blessings, trials and tribulations that we endure that help us build character. In January I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer. One of my best qualities is that there isn’t anything that can happen in my life that can threaten my JOY. Life is all about how you deal with the adversity thrown at you. It is not hard to change your mind, or feelings to remain positive in the challenges you may be facing. While having cancer has been mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging; the biggest pivot for me has been my focus on growing my business during this time. I realized this is the moment when I have to show up for myself the most. My health is my main priority, however, I did not want to lose the momentum that I’d gained since getting more clients last year. I had to make a decision and ask myself if I slowed down would that be beneficial for my business growth? It wasn’t, so I decided to keep going and stay in JOY!!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
What capital? LOL :) I remember asking this very question to David Tutera. He was here in Houston hosting his Your Wedding Experience Tour. I was there as an Intern. We were having a Q &A session with him during lunch. I asked him how do I find the capital I need to start my business? His answer to me was you don’t need capital, just get started everything you need you have, and if you don’t have the knowledge or know where to find what you need we have the internet and you can ask google to help you find your resources. In all honesty you do need a start up budget. It doesn’t have to be anything major, you will need money for business cards, a canva subscription, and the necessary business tools to get your business growing.
