We recently connected with Jackie Sunga and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jackie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
I have never actually provided business to my family! My first client came to me through social media marketing. My business opened at the height of the pandemic in 2020, so there wasn’t a lot of in-person networking events. I posted a lot on Instagram, and the client loved my content so much that she reached out about my email marketing services.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I help clients who are struggling with clarifying their marketing message, attracting their perfect-fit clients online, and converting them into paying customers. I provide website copywriting services and brand messaging strategy for 7-9 figure consultants, service providers, and SaaS companies. What sets me apart as a service provider is how I blend conversion strategy with brand voice for a cohesive marketing message. I am most proud of the work I do with values-driven small business owners, helping them feel excited about showing off their websites to as many people as possible.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first opened my business, I was still figuring out what services I wanted to provide so I provided a lot of different marketing services. In other words, I wasn’t specialized. I even had subcontract designers and tech assistants helping me deliver design and tech services to clients. I realized I didn’t want to provide all of those services anymore and focused on specializing on conversion copywriting instead.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Building a reputation within a market begins with providing excellent services. If you are a service provider who provides consistently excellent, 5-star customer service, clients will naturally want to continue working with you and tell their friends about you. This has happened to me repeatedly, which is why I honestly don’t spend a lot of time marketing myself because I get so many referrals and my client retention is so high. Focus on your customers more than your prospects by delivering services that stand out, and your customers will do a lot of your marketing for you.
