Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jackie Renteria. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jackie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I took a risk by partially leaving my steady paying job and opened up a store for my small business. I still work part time at my regular job but I took on a huge responsibility by opening up a store now. I also took the risk and invested in a lot of new products. I started off just selling jewelry, now we have expanded we also sell purses, shoes & clothes. The month of December 2022 was amazing for me we sold out of all purses. I knew I needed to take this risk of opening up my store before Christmas, it was very very hectic for me because we were running on short amount of time. With the help of my friends and family I was able to put everything together and open up a weekend before Christmas. The turnout for my grand opening was amazing I couldn’t have done it with out my family/friends help.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jackie Renteria, many people call me Maria but the truth is this business was name after my mother Maria Renteria. She sold jewelry in her latest years but she unfortunately passed away on June 9, 2021. I started this business just for extra income while I was out for work for my mothers passing. I had no idea it will expand so much. My dream was always to open up a store. I really wish my mother was here to see how much our business has expanded. A lot of customers that have followed me since the beginning now this story but I want all my new customers to get to know my story.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built a lot of my audience on social media by being very active showing my backstory and being very consistent. I know my majority of customers are from instagram but I will like to expand to Facebook and Tik tok. My advice is to be active , be present & always give back. An example of giving back is by partnering up with another small business and doing giveaways. Also it’s important to attend pop ups and get exposure. I’ve attended plenty pop ups where I don’t make enough to profit but one thing I get out of this is by bringing exposure to my business. It’s all about taking a risk and doing something you like to do.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When my mother passed everyone reached out and I showed my resilience by being strong and pushing forward. I know my mom would have did the same exact thing. I just want to live my life for her and prove I can be strong and move ahead from depression. I did not want to fall into depression so I made sure to keep myself busy and optimistic by taking these risks that lead to an amazing small business in her honor.
