Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jackie Nagel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jackie , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Many times in the early days of business, I thought being a donut-hole fryer at a local bakery would be less stressful.
Early in business, with little experience, I often turned to the so-called “experts” to guide my business decisions. As a result, I was continually working contrary to who I was and the kind of business I wanted to create. I was working 12 – 14 hours a day and ignoring my health. Being hyper-focused on growing revenue also triggered poor client choices and ineffective marketing strategies. It was certainly a recipe for a joyless business. And it was unsustainable.
It wasn’t an easy transition due to deeply entrenched habits and ineffective beliefs, but I was finally able to turn it around to create a business I love working in and on.
Jackie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After a stressful, long-term, successful stint in sales, I was ready for something else. Coaching was in its infancy and felt like a good fit for my goal – helping other people.
After graduating from Coach U and Corporate Coach U, I settled into working with small business owners in my practice, inspired by my dad, who owned a small business.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Promises made – Promises kept have helped build our reputation. We strive to ensure everyone is satisfied with their experience and we go above and beyond to ensure that all our clients get results. Our commitment to results sets us apart and why our clients keep returning. They know we have their backs in whatever they desire to achieve.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As a new entrepreneur, it’s easy to get caught in the web of “business norms.” Yet, after years of struggling to follow the norms, I discovered that they didn’t often work for me. The norms of how you should work, when you should work, or where you should market created unnecessary stress for me.
Someone once said that a “should” is often someone else’s agenda. I found this to be true.
Once I learn to trust my inner knowing, my business became more successful.
