Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jackie Casiano. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jackie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful projects I’ve worked on are custom orders for special projects. Last holiday season, I was able to make custom candles to raise funds for Project Transformation – North Texas which is a non-profit program that benefits underprivileged kids in the North Texas areas with after school and summer programs. It was an organization that I was a part of as a kid, so it was really nice to be able to give back.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Jackie Casiano and I am the owner and maker of Wicks & Wonder Candle Co. LLC. I started making my own candles after being frustrated with the mass produced options. My goal is to create home fragrance with purpose and quality. I use phthalate-free fragrance and essential oils that are allergy friendly and suitable to sensitive noses. I use eco-conscious and reusable materials and packaging to keep waste minimal.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
A question I get a lot is “why don’t you get a machine to make the candles for you?”. Conceptually, it makes sense as to how that would be a solution, but to me, that would undermine my idea of slow-pour, and small batch candle making.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I have such a supportive and welcoming community on social media and it’s slowly growing with each relationship I build. I don’t think I had any goals in mind besides getting my business name out there but now I think it’s become a space where I can be myself, share local events, things I’ve learned, and shop updates. My advice would be to remember who your audience is and keep communicating with them, regardless of the noise.
