We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jackie Beaston. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jackie below.
Hi Jackie, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
The best investment I made into my business was investing in a CRM system, which is a customer relations manager. I did this right before COVID and it ended up being one of the best decisions because it kept me so organized in a time where everything was up in the air. It helped me keep my client’s information, contracts, invoices and everything organized so that I could keep up with the constant cancellations and reschedules that I was dealing with daily. Without it, I am not sure how I would have managed it all. I still use it to this day and it has continued to keep me organized and allows me to send out forms to all my brow clients as well as manage my bridal clients. I think the biggest lesson learned was to not rely on pen and paper because having things digital makes my life easier as well as streamlines a lot of processes for clients.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I currently offer brow and makeup services here in Nashville, including permanent makeup, brow shaping and tinting and lamination. I started following my passion for makeup and beauty back when I was in high school, always doing makeup for all my friends when we would go out. Once I got to college I ended up assisting a local makeup artist who then introduced me to a manager at the MAC counter in Nordstrom who hired me pretty soon after. From there I gained mentors who really helped elevate my craft and furthered my career. I got into bridal makeup and once I was booked and busy I left MAC to go back to school for esthetics and began being mentored by a very talented brow artist. This led to my second love – brows. What really drew me in and made me feel super proud was seeing how much confidence people got from doing their brows. I think something that sets me apart is my insane level of perfection and I think my clients would vouch for that as well. I really want people to know that when they invest in any beauty service with me, whether makeup or brows, that I am going to do everything possible to make them feel comfortable and confident.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to majorly pivot in my personal and professional life when I moved to Nashville from Delaware in January of 2024. I had an amazing clientele in Delaware who I miss dearly and it is definitely still an adjustment going from being well known in a small area to being brand new in a larger more beauty saturated city. I just did my best to network and put myself out there to attract new opportunities and it has paid off and has been a really great journey so far.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy to grow my clientele both here and in Delaware has been word of mouth. I think since there are so many talented beauty professionals in Nashville it is so important to make the best first impressions you can to keep clients coming back and referring you. People are always going to brag about how amazing they feel and I think that is the best way to bring new people in the door because what everyone really wants is to feel good about themselves and that is what I try to accomplish with every client.
