Jacki, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Question not found
I was the owner of a thriving retail business that I loved dearly until I picked up my first paint brush and really knew the meaning of loving what you do. I was hooked. All of a sudden I didn’t want to focus on retail and all that entailed but wanted to express myself in a way I’ve never been able to before. Within 30 days time I sold my store and embarked on a “feel the fear and do it anyway” adventure. I moved into my very first studio with three months rent borrowed to see if I could make a go of being a professional artist and I haven’t looked back since. wake up happy and go to bed happy and fulfilled.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Prior to being a high-end designer boutique owner, I was a Museum/Gallery Director for seventeen years and I’ve been surrounded by art and artists in all mediums, genres, and forms. I’ve loved art forever but never put a thought into trying it from the other side of the business. Once I picked up my first ten tubes of acrylics that’s when the fun really began.
I felt that if I could share my life’s philosophy through my work I could help others and that’s what I set out to do. My work is a reflection of the life I strive to live and though it may seem odd to say based on mathematics. Math and art are not as dissimilar as one might think. At least not in this case. A mathematician starts with essentially nothing then adds, subtracts, multiplies to eventually reach a sum or an outcome. So it is with my art. I add. Any day I don’t add to my work is a wasted day. I subtract. I have learned to subtract what and who doesn’t work and i do that in all my pieces as well. . I multiply. the things and marks and colors i love i use many times over. The repetition of producing the art I love never gets old, it multiplies.
As an abstract expressionist painter, I provide white glove service for my clients. I personally deliver, install and come up with placement and lighting solutions to enhance their new piece. Since being in
many different aesthetic fields I find that if asked I can help with decor suggestions as well. I am most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my collectors and art students. The reviews I receive are always a nice surprise. Excitingly enough I’ve become the Bold Intuitive Painter in my area and a teacher with a positive following. I’m known for instilling the belief in all my student that an artist lives in all of us. Each one of us has a story to tell and the ability to express their own voice.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
This question comes at the perfect time because the point for me to pivot is right now. I. generated a majority of my art sales and new art students at these events and i enjoyed the hell out of them too. . They are tearing the buildings down so I had to find a new place to create and a have to find a new way of selling my work.
The pivot will be to be a larger online presence and be able to promote myself and my works on different online platforms. but now it needs to become the crux of my sales focus.
Plus, there will be a need to shift to more of an online presence as well for the art classes that I teach and lots more social media and marketing managment
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I was representing a blue jeans line from the trunk of my car and doing house parties for friends and family. I did well but had the idea to add in tops, jewelry, bags and belts to up my income. I would go to client’s homes and set up a small but intimate boutique to showcase my wares. One day when I came home and opened up the trunk of my SUV all my items came raining down on me like an avalanche. My husband and biggest supporter said it’s time for brick and mortar. I was nervous to begin a business in my 50’s having never done so before. That’s when he said “Jacki, build it and they will come” and so I did and they did too. I opened a store and enjoyed it greatly as I said before.
As a Museum/Gallery director I had to publicly speak in front of large crowds every six weeks. I used to break out in hives at even the prospect of this when I was in college and have always had this fear. I decided then and there that that’s why I should at least try. It was rough but I muddled through until it was second nature. I just kept thinking the audience wants to hear your message or they wouldn’t be here so give them what they came for and don’t be afraid.
