Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jack Tyler Adams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jack Tyler, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
Years ago my mother was married to a verbally abusive man. My step father had moved us to Florida to isolate us from all our friends. My mother confided in her dear friend what was going on. My mother’s friend immediately moved into action. My mothers friend, Carroll Gainey, gave her the courage to leave her abuser. While my step dad was a work, we loaded up a U-Haul and we’re on the road, in two hours, back to South Carolina. When we got to South Carolina, Carroll had moved out of his three bedroom two bath home and rented a small place so that we could live in his home, rent free, and be safe. He gave up his own home! He let us live there rent free for over two years while my mom went to school to better our lives. What he did for us changed our lives forever and it is the greatest act of kindness I have ever experienced.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a 10 year old micro influencer with a social media presence on Instagram and YouTube. I am growing a presence on Facebook as well. I am a comedian, gamer, poet, songwriter, and children’s book author.
I am best known for my comedic storytelling. However, I try my best to let my followers into all aspects of my life.
My mother got me into modeling and music when I was very young. She says the moment I hit the set, it was like I was a veteran. I remember the first time I ever got on stage and grabbed a microphone. I took to it like a duck to water. I was only four years old, but I walked through that crowd, singing, like I was Elvis. They say if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. I believe that is absolutely true.
I have found success by truly connecting with my followers. One day I may be sharing a story about something funny that happened, and the next post might be me playing gorilla tag. I know the popular narrative on social media is to stick with a genre that works…but for me I am multi-faceted, and I want to show that to my followers. It’s ok to not fit inside a box.
I am very proud of the relationships that I have built with my followers. I feel like they are my friends and I am theirs as well. I very rarely edit my videos. I let them see the imperfections. I want them to know that it’s OK to not be perfect. In a world of filters, this is more important than ever. I want to be an example, and I want to give them courage to be exactly who they are.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I always knew that I wanted to be a social media influencer. At the age of five I started watching every tip and trick video that I could on how to drive traffic and how to get followers and subscribers. I found out quickly that everyone has an opinion and they are contradict one another. I followed the influencer’s advice that resonated with me and began my journey.
Through trial and error trying to be what everyone says I should be with my “Brand” , I discovered that I needed to throw all the training out the window. I sat down and made a list of goals of what I want out of this journey and then under each goal, I made a list steps to achieve the goals. It was that simple. I decided what I wanted and not what everyone said I should want.
There is a certain freedom that comes with being your authentic self. The biggest take-away I learned was to be myself and do what works for me. You can’t please everyone and its exhausting trying to do so. Live your truth and you will attract those who appreciate you and your craft.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first started out my goal was to be a gamer like Unspeakable or Mr. Beast. I filmed a few videos and they did ok but not like I envisioned them. I began to see that the world already has a Unspeakable and Mr. Beast and I asked myself…What can Jack Tyler Adams bring to the table? I have always been a humorous person and love to laugh. I love to tell comedic stories and people love to hear them. I am also known for going to karaoke and getting up on the tables and singing so I am not shy at all. Once I embraced my talents and shared them with the world, my first story video had over 8 million views. That was my first lesson in doing that God had created you to do. It was so easy for me because it was natural for me. I still love gaming and I do videos on the games I play but now I do them with humor. Don’t ever be afraid to shift mid-stream. Its ok to fail. Its wonderful when you fail because it means you are trying.
