We recently connected with Jack & Tim and have shared our conversation below.
Jack & Tim, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Tim – I was around 9 maybe 10 when I began hitting post and pans and making a racket !
I was pretty shy kid though , it took me many years of being a star in my bedroom to finally dare go out and sing in front of people ,
Growing up I listened to lots of different music, from Simon & Garfunkel to Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Prince , we really were split for choice in the 80’s,
It was while at art college around 18 I happened to borrow a guitar and from the moment I held it , I knew I wanted to play.
Jack – I was even younger when Dad realised I had a passion for music, At 5 I was singing the theme tunes to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ( including the incidental music )
I think when I was about 10 when I started singing in local Talent shows , I knew about 5/6 songs on the guitar so we used to go into the city busking which was great fun ! I just carried on from there .
Jack & Tim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We were first seen to the majority of the public when we audition for Britain’s got talent in 2018,
We had written a bunch of songs together at home and after heartbreaking loss of my mum to cancer, and my beloved grandad ( who Jack is named after ) Record our hearts into a song called “The lucky ones ”
A song about being eternally grateful for having those special people in our lives , & how different life would’ve been without them .
We were extremely nervous for our audition and was totally shocked the moment Simon Cowell hit his golden buzzer !
Our lives changed from that moment . A wonderful moment we will always be grateful for.
Since then we released 17 singles and an album, and are working on a new album we wrote in Nashville recently,
The songs we write seem to connect with many different types of people, we try not to write songs without meaning, they really have to connect with us and emotional level
And when you’re an independent artist the greatest thing creative wise is the ability to release what you want when you want .
Although being fully independent, funding is always an issue and we often just scrape by , what was the support of our fans behind us we’re still here .
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Jack – In General ? Music is the drive, the need to create.
Like most musicians and artists we would love to make it big in this industry, but if all we do is make someones world a slightly better place for tiny moment ?
Im Proud of that.
Tim – Personally ? I get an immense pleasure out of music , but if I had to choose one reason ?
I do it for my Son .
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think most non-creatives don’t fully understand the anguish a Songwriter can go through to bring this song to the masses , it doesn’t always come easy at all, sometimes you just can’t find the words you need to express yourself,
Also the amount of hoops you have to leap through to actually get a song released as an independent artist is huge.
We not only write the songs you hear, but we also perform and record , produce , mix and master them.
Then there is the distribution stage PR stage an attempt at radio play, the list is endless! So when you find out the song is doing well you really have grafted extremely hard.
It’s so important to support independent artists with streaming plays, merchandise Physical sales and Live Ticket sales.
Every Single penny goes back into the next song…
