We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jack O’neill a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Aside from serving killer coffee, our main priority is building real, genuine relationships with our partners and customers. From our experience in food service, we’ve noticed that typically as businesses expand, profit is prioritized over passion and relationships. We aim to flip that on it’s head by serving a passion driven product.
We know how important community is and we also know that coffee has the power to bring people together.
At Bristol Street, success looks like building a tight-knit clan of cold brew loving customers.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a small scale, yet growing coffee brewery based out of Orange County, serving the greater LA area.
Our goal is to bring high quality coffee to people at (competitively affordable) prices.
We make everything in house from our syrups to our fan favorite cold foams. As former baristas, we have had a lot of time to test and perfect our favorite cups of coffee, experiment with new and sometimes quirky flavor combos, and build a customer curated menu. At the end of the day our top priority is making sure every customer walks away with a unique drink they won’t forget.
How’d you meet your business partner?
We met working at a local coffee shop in Huntington Beach. We loved making connections with the community through our love of coffee. We spent most of our shifts brainstorming techniques and blends, daydreaming about the ways we might put our own spin on our favorite drinks. Quickly, we realized we wanted to step outside of our comfort zone of simply serving and build a coffee brand of our own. Starting a business with your best friend can go one of two ways. Lucky for us we perfectly complement each other’s strengths and have ultimately grown closer.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As young entrepreneurs, we both stared the company with a limited amount of time and money. This meant working from 5-9 in our local coffeeshop, racing to our 9-5’s in the afternoons, and learning health code regulations from 5-9 each night. Bouncing from field to field only illuminated their stark contrasts. Pivoting from our comfort zones to bringing our passion project to life, has been a true adventure and incredibly rewarding. We are so excited to see where this journey will take us next.
